Michael Steele has come out publicly in critisizing the GOP for the direction the last two presidents took with taxing and spending us into the crisis we face today.  What is the reason for this sudden realization and what can it mean to Obamas re-election possibility?

The reason for the sudden realization...simple, their disastrous election results!

As far as Obama's re-election possibility, I don't think the man has a snowball's chance in hell of getting re-elected! Yes Americans were angry that the republicans strayed from the principles they are supposed to stand for and they voted for Obama because he promised something different. The people didn't realize that what Obama meant by different was socialism. Now of course he, and the rest of the democrats have shown what they really stand for, the subjugation of the American people.

Now I for one don't believe for a second that the republicans will reduce the size of government, or cut spending, but if they at least make an effort to minimize the governments encroachment on the rights of the people they will be worthy of my vote. In any case, the democrats have shown their cards, they are socialists one and all and will never return to power!

I wouldn't say the Dems will lose power forever. Their indoctrination classes in our schools will certainly prime some to love the socialist idea.

A move from possibility to guarnatee.  The GOP has taken the suicidal strategy of pandering to tea-baggers and shack- dwellers (further evidenced by this article)and alienating the centrists who used to have a say in their party.

Poppa Blues, if you don't believe the Republicans will do any of the things they say, why vote for them? Why not go Libertarian?

The problem with a third party is the system isn't designed for it. That's why Ron Paul ran as a republican in the last election. Recent polls suggest the tea party patriots would beat both parties in an election if it was held today and they aren't even a party!

I do believe Americans want something different, a return to the principles established by our founders. It was foolish to think Obama would be the one to return America to it's unique greatness, but hope springs eternal!

Remember, power corrupts, and no matter who is in power, the tendency will be to expand the size and scope of government. The people must be ever vigilant to stop this. We should no longer accept fiscal policy that burdens us with debt and we should not expect government to provide for our needs. Still half the country are democrats and favor government control over our lives and to be the broker of wealth distribution, to provide for economic "fairness" and shower us with entitlements they claim we have rights to.

Freedom is a responsibility we all are obligated to safe guard, by being productive, educating ourselves, and participating in the system, and yes, even being ready for a call to arms to fight for it if necessary! If the republicans bring this message they will be returned to power. the democrats, well, they don't deserve to be allowed to live in America. They should be cast out to Cuba or Venezuela, or maybe Iran, or N. Korea, at least those countries will give them what they want!

You all may not be aware of it...but the ranks are growing and the system is changing...the Ron Paul crowd are mostly youth...smart and creating a new way of seeing things, they are changing the world...you just wait and see, or hop on board and go along for the ride.

ron Paul and other conservative constitutional minded groups are passing out small Constitution booklets at all their rallies and going to campuses and passing them out there too.

you wait...its happening and I am excited smile

they are not just simply going to start a third party...they are creating or rather re-creating the political system...more to where it should be under constitutional laws and ideals

that's a pretty clever line - that "all democrats are socialists" one!  You'll go far with that!  AND of course the democrats have completely lost all future elections as of 2010 since there is a socialist in the white house who refuses to stop socializing.  I hope I have this right - I may have to declare myself republican just to be considered clever - in future!

Poppa Blues, I agree with many of the ideas and sentiments that you expressed. But "The Democrats" can't be exiled. Many ordinary citizens are democrats. The problem is that the ideals we share are now understood and embraced by only a minority of ordinary people. How do we get around that?

It's definitely a challenge. We have to start with the schools, where kids have been indoctrinated for years! Most people don't realize how the federal government has been gaining in strength, and ignoring our constitution. Kids aren't taught the constitution in school and what it means or the intentions of the founders words. They don't realize that words like "progress" is just another way to say enslavement. That liberalism isn't just about new ideas for progressing us as a nation, but is nothing more than socialism or communism. They don't realize how evil this supposedly compassionate form of government is! Unfortunately it's too late for half the people in this country. Just read the response from the liberal idiots in this forum! Never do they have a valid argument to back up their positions, always they simply attack! They refuse to see what is so obvious to clear thinking people.

no, a relative of a relative, so I guess she's a relative but I'll have to ask the rebublicans whether that makes her "mine" or not!  Hey, are you good at math?  because I want someone to divide the total bailouts by the U.S. population of 308 million or so and see how much we get?

Mostly they went to growing the government. Just look at the stats, the number of government workers making over 100,000 dollars exploded in the last year. Government agencies increased in size and numbers accounting for the largest amount of new hires, all this while business everywhere were letting people go.

Only with government logic can you borrow more and spend more to make more! LOL!

nobody will ever really know where it all went but if it had gone to each of the 308 million residents here in the US we would have all had an extra $30,000 but then we would all need to pay $39,000 roughly to get our country out of debt.
