You get what you pay for. Why would you want to have low paid politicians? If we would pay our Congressman and Senators more, better people might be willing to run and put in the hours it takes. I wish the average citizen knew how grueling being a House Rep is. It's a grind. Not sure why people want to begrudge a decent salary to those in very important positions. Yes, they have great benefits. And of course, many are corrupt. There are solutions.
Do you want folks to run for office who have been successful in the private sector? The military? Raise the salary, especially for House members.
If politicians were maintaining the laws [see http://hubpages.com/politics/The-U-S-Co … preme-Law] they all would also be the same as "We The People" and entitled to only what the people are entitled to, thus, all wedges should be minimum. Money should not be the focus of government nor the people but ensuring everyone is united, there is equal justice, everyone is tranquil in their chosen life, the people, land and environment is defended, the welfare is common among all man and thete's freedom to live without being afraid of courts, police or any other entity or group(s). In that light, no politician should ever get amy more than any other citizen.
