What was your REACTION when Dr. Ben Carson indicated that Black slaves in the United
States were simply immigrants like other immigrants but worked for........LESS?
He's a brilliant surgeon but is loopy on a lot of other things!
Immigrants (voluntarily) travel to America.
Slaves weren't given an option!
Well, this is pretty close to what I was about to answer: this man is a lot of things, but a brilliant public speaker just isn't one of them!
DS, Voluntarily or they just have no other place to go, as in the case of Muslim refugees? What other loopy things?
bradmasterOCal, An immigrant is someone who (chooses) to leave their homeland. Ben Carson should know his history regarding the slave trade. Slaves didn't choose to come to America. The other crazy thing dealt with prisoners "choosing to be gay"
DS Asked and answered in another comment here.
my take is this is yet another attack on Trump and his administration. What he made was a statement and the reaction from the left, and the elite celebrities ensures that Blacks won't ever move forward.
Contrast that with Chinese Coolies. because the workers would labor for low wages and live in substandard living conditions, the word "coolie" became a derogatory code for "Asian" (both East and South) in the US. They were a prime target for criticism by labor leaders, politicians & ordinary citizens, who believed foreign laborers were depressing wages & unfairly taking jobs.
You don't hear anything about the Coolies today, or that Japanese Americans that were internment during WWII. Because the Asians didn't get the government help that kept them indentured, like the blacks.
You dn see Asians protesting or rioting, they just go to school and work. That is what the African Americans need to do.
It took 70 years for the US gov to apologize to the Japanese Americans for their internment.
Ben Carson is a famed doctor and he should be used by the Blacks as a motivation to move on. President Obama didn't do much to motivate them. Raising the minimum wage to $15 hr isn't going to motivate them.
They need to realize, that the democrats and especially the liberals are really continuing their slavery that the 13th amendment was supposed to free them. But, giving them fish, and not teaching them fishing, makes them indentured to the freebies of the party. The democrats chum the voters for votes, and that chum is welfare, and freebies. These are invisible chains but they haven't been broken in 150 years.
The immigrants from the turn of the 20th century, were allowed to get into the country, but the govt gave them nothing. They huddled together with other immigrants and made their way to supporting themselves.
What have we learned from the last 28 years of bad presidents and congresses, apparently nothing. This social justice is a crutch, and a chain at the same time.
So, Dr Ben Carson as someone who came from the bottom to where he is today, has the right to say what he wants. Looking at the coolies, the poor immigrants and the homeless especially in the urban areas, what he said is correct. There is very little difference between slaves, coolies, and other indentured people.
The middle class shrank, and continues to shrink, and that was where most people wanted to get in life. But both parties are responsible.
"this is yet another attack on Trump and his administration." Not everything has to do with Trump. Carson (as a candidate) once said people go into prison straight and come out gay. That was stupid too! Slavery and immigration are not the same.
DS, you missed the point. First, it has to do with the systematic attack on all Trump's appointments. 2. I gave a detail of slavery and immigration and how they tie together. 3. I agree they don't come out gay, they are treated GAY in prison.
My point is whether or not he's in Trump's admin this was a stupid thing to say. Immigrants aren't usually sold and chained together for their voyage. Immigrants choose to leave for better opportunities. Ben misspoke (without thinking).
No reaction at all. My facepalm is permanently affixed ever since Trump became president. Well actually its been well before that, but at least in the past there were small breaks, now there's no reason to bother moving your hand at all, since as as soon as you think about doing so, some other fantastically idiotic thing comes along. These guys are like an all you can eat buffet of stupidity and there are herds of lickspittles running around choking down as much as they can.

I was not a Ben Carson cheerleader. I liked what I saw, but things were just starting. Now, I think his recent revelations about his violent actions when he was a kid have doomed him. Not necessarily because of the actions he discussed, (at least for me), but because it appears obvious that it is...

Can you imagine Doctor Carson up against demonstrably assertive Putin? Or other intimidating dictators? I sure can’t ~ He’s a timid, introverted, and very strange medical man who exhibits bizarre habits and traits ~ He’s definitely NOT the guy to follow a Strong, Confident, Assertive,...

Newsmax: On your support, I know you explained why you're supporting him, but it was a 180 degree turnaround, for the most part. I mean, he said some nasty things about you. How do you reconcile that?"Ben Carson: Ah... Politics. You know, the politics of personal destruction. You know, that's...
