If a Terrorist attack of similar magnitude to September 11th happened today, would America unite?

Our nation politicizes everything; from sports, to television, to global migration, history, and now even natural disasters.  The current environment of the nation is anti-police, anti-republican, anti-democrat, anti-law, anti-etc.  (we're quickly becoming the United States of Anti)  It makes me wonder if we could all come together as a nation in the event of something that threatens the sovereignty of the country or attacks our way of life.  What are your thoughts?

The simple answer is yes. But for how long is the question. Just like we were united as one after 9/11 but soon after, people forget and we were back to fighting among ourselves, among two parties, and among various sub groups...
The stupidity of the masses knows no bound. They are so easily manipulated by the power that be.

I'd love to say I fully agree with you Jack, but with the media always stirring the pot and social media full of fake news, it's hard to believe we could do it.

Its also hard when the current  occupant is one by one dismantling everything the former occupant put in place....thereby dismissing half the country. Seems you all dont want unity, but submission.

Lovemychris, it is not dismantling but restoring the rule of law. Many of Obama's executive actions including DACA were unConstitutional. I know word seem alien to you but some of us on the right do care. Our country is not a country, once we foresak

Hmmm. So its unconstititional for obama to do it, but its constitutional for trump to undo it? More white male privilege, or what?

    5. RJ Schwartz profile image86
RJ Schwartzposted 6 years agoin reply to this

on things like DACA, it was unconstitutional for Obama to do what he did.  What can you show us that Trump has done which is unconstitutional Leslie?

Undoing daca! Cant be ok for one man and not the other....you know, like obamas eo's make him a tryant, trumps get cheered.

You need a lesson on civics my friend. I have just the couse for you. Checkout my hub american civics 101.
Let me explain how it applied to this case. Obama used executive action to write a new law DACA.This was unConstitutional. Only Congress can.

Jack, according to anyone on the left, Obama could never do any wrong. Everything he did according to them was the right. Now Trump is in America has a chance.

So how come trump can undo a law?

    10. gregas profile image81

It wasn't a law. That's the thing the lefts can't get through their heads.

So obama's not allowed to make a policy as president? Is that what you're saying?

    12. gregas profile image81

He was allowed to make policies, but they weren't done legally. Plain and simple.

So if putting a policy in place is not legal, how is removing one legal?

Though some in our nation try to politicize everything, as you mention, not all do so by any stretch of the imagination. Real people are going about their lives and maintaining their opinions in spite of what the news media promotes from relatively small segments of the population.

Specific to your question of whether Americans would come together in case of such an event I think we see a glimpse of it in this latest hurricane. Though news media is hyping everything, people in communities are reaching out to help each other and to work with and even help first responders. Not all people are the sheep the news media presents them to be.

I have relatives in every region of Florida and have mercifully received word that they are all okay at this point with relatively minimal damage around them. To a person the worst is downed trees and power outages. Yes, there have been high winds throughout the state. There is indeed lots of water everywhere. Yes, a few have sadly been killed and injured. But if you talk to true Floridians they will tell you that these things are to be expected when there is a HURRICANE!

It's very funny to them to to see news media personalities wowing the nation by trying to stand still in the wind or making news out of high water. Sure, they know there are some who need to be notified of what to do, where to go, how to behave, but really...it's a HURRICANE. True Floridians will tell you that when people need help they help each other whether it is with info ahead of time or in an emergency.

Living in that region of the world means living with the knowledge and expectation that hurricanes happen. It's a wonderful thing to have today's technology for warnings ahead of time, as opposed to times when no such thing existed, but whatever happens, real people unite and help each other, then they pick up the pieces together and go forward with their lives again.

If some refuse to join an effort to unitedly help each other, well, they are free to do it, but they should be grateful that so many will work together because they will still benefit from the effort. If they want to just use the event to try to magnify their pet peeve, let them. Real people will take care of business and help maintain the freedom that allows them that privilege. Those others need to think of trying it their way in one of the countries that hate Americans...

You're not impressed because it isn't going your way and it actually looks like America is on the road to being great again. You're unhappy because the one you voted for turned out to be a poor loser. That happened simply because she made mistakes.

Anything positive that happens is due to the 8 years of barack obama and the policies he put in place. If you seriously are saying in 8 months trump turned us from recession to pulling out, i have many things to sell you. Trump is turning us back.

The way the left is in our country right now, I believe they would blame Trump and the right for the attack no matter what the facts.  They would then demand we apologize to our attackers for anything we might have done past, present or future to cause them to attack us.  The conservatives would do what is necessary to protect our country.  Uniting our country would require uniting one side who puts the United States and its LEGAL citizens first and is willing to do what is necessary to protect the country with the left who blames the United States for every wrong done in the world since the time of the caveman and believes the United States deserves any bad thing that comes its way, as long as it doesn't affect their life.  I don't know if that would be possible..

LMC, I'd like to point out that the  discussion isn't 9/11 but a theoretical similar terrorist attack in the future.  Learn some history and see how liberals handled 9/11.

Scot, I don't attack the left.  Mock, taunt laugh at and illustrate the absurdity of their positions on the issues is something I do daily.  Never attack. I believe that liberalism is evil and I'm sure you know how the bible tells us to fight evil.

Today, it'll probably be reminiscent of the way people reacted to the Orlando shooting or the attacks in Europe. Half the nation would be angry and want to unite and take notice. The other half will want to cry, hold hands and speak out against "hate speech".

Yes, if there is another terrorist attack America would come together and unite, just like they have after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Anytime tragedy happens we see it in America time after time. It has nothing to do with the left or the right, Republicans or Democrats, Christians or Muslims, we are all Americans and we care about our country. Disagreements are always put aside and helping our fellow Americans is the thing of importance. There is no need to blame anyone, terrorism happens, and it can happen anywhere at anytime.
