Gas prices are soaring as usual under Republican leadership. This will hurt middle and lower classes more than it does those who got the lions' share of the tax cuts. Not only do we have to repay the Chinese for the money we borrowed , we now have to pay higher prices for fuel. I hope those wanted the small cuts will enjoy paying more for their travel. Remember Dubya's and Cheney's record as far as fuel prices went under Dubya's term? Same old same old!  sad

Randy, the worker got creamed by Spanky Trump's / republican's corporate welfare tax cut scheme that transferred trillions of our wealth to his elite Wall Street pals and will add roughly 7 trillion to the national debt:

It must be repealed ASAP: And now with nosebleed gas prices Mr. Trump caused with his reckless big mouth and insane policies, the little temporary tax cut crumbs workers got out of that atrocious losing deal will be more than consumed by high gasoline costs:

But what did we expect from a con man who operated a fake university?

The worker and senior citizens will pay dearly in high gas prices, but this beautiful piece of work called elitist Steve Mnuchin, Donny's little pal, and his lovely gold digger wife who will rake in tens of thousands if not millions from Mr. Trump's corporate welfare tax cut scheme won't feel a thing, they'll be just fine on your dime thank God:

I've spent too many miles commuting, over too many years watching gas prices, to come to any other collision than it takes blinders (or a lack of interest) to assume gas prices are controlled by a sitting president.

Hi there Randy, how do you come to the conclusions that these higher gas prices are the fault of Republican leadership, and are somehow associated with Pres. Trump via his tax cut legislation, and our Chinese debt?

I looked around a bit, (I started with Jake's link in support of his facts), and could only find a couple "iffy" possibilities that blaming the Republicans, or Pres. Trump, was a legitimate exercise.

One possible cause was ours, and the world's strong economies producing higher demand. It seems that if you want to blame Pres. Trump and the Republicans for that, then you first have to give them credit for their policies that produced our currently strong economy. I doubt you want to do that, so that one is dead in the water.

The other was the probable loss of Iran's oil production, (due to our cancelling the Iran deal), but there were varying opinions as to whether that loss could easily be made-up elsewhere. So that one seems a little "iffy" too, but perhaps it could be the straw you grabbed.

Ironically one cause attributed to be a major one was our strengthening dollar. But the primary cause most sources attributed to be responsible for the higher prices was an OPEC/Russian production-cut agreement.

The China debt thing is a puzzler, because that debt accumulation wasn't Pres. Trump's work. And I still don't see the logic for bringing in the tax cut legislation.

So, what facts did form your conclusions?

ps. regarding higher gas prices under previous Republican administrations; I did come across one article that traced gas price spikes back to that 70's oil embargo, and through the next years and administrations, it seems those spikes occurred throughout all administrations - almost shared equally by Republican and Democrat presidents. (it looked like Pres. Obama's 8 years had about as many spikes as Pres. Bush's did.

      [EDIT ADDED]
pss. You have to check this one out Randy, you will love it.
Trick question: Who had higher gas prices, Obama or Bush?

Turns out Pres. Bush's average price was $2.52 per gal. and Pres. Obama's was $2.53. Pres. Bush started his administration with gas prices of $1.83, and Pres. Obama started with prices at $1.84. There's more, you will love it. Come on Randy, if you want to make those claims, you really should at least look at this link so you will know what you need to debunk.

I guess the remaining Trump fans don't understand what happens to gas and oil prices when a president, or in Spanky Trump's case an impostor moron president is delusional, prone to hallucination, reckless, clueless and ignorant of how the world works: They don't understand how 'words' from the white house can impact everything and when this idiot threatened to tear up the Iran nuke deal, bombed Syria, moved the embassy and just projects a war monger mentality from day one, it caused massive instability around the world and of course in the middle east which everyone knows drives up gas prices:

Bye Bye temporary tax cut crumbs, the gas pump will gladly take em:

It's hilarious, Trump fans were ready to give this short timer racist some kind of prize for doing absolutely nothing in N Korea except roll out the red carpet for Kim Jung Un to perfect his long range missile capability, yet Mr. Trump is somehow not responsible for all the atrocities, chaos and economic turmoil he's causing with nosebleed gas prices and tremendous stock market crashes,  the biggest point drop in the Dow Jones in history:

But hey don't worry, this creepy elitist who had to go smell the gold at Fort Knox while his snooty wife made snide written comments to the common people including Trump fans, got tens of thousands if not millions from Donny Boy's and the republicans corporate welfare tax cut, he'll be just fine thank God:

Will Trump fans ever realize what's being done to them? 2 bit white house grifters taking them for a ride?

I guess certain persons are elderly and are suffering from dementia. This is my 44th summer on the 3rd rock from the yellow dwarf star, and I seem to recall that every year at this time the price of petrol rises.

It's so sad that some persons are so forgetful they don't recall what happens with commodity prices from year to year. Well, guess there's nothing I can do about the feeble minds of others.

Mr. Trump has been on a recklessly insane  war path with the middle east since his illegitimate tenure began causing unprecedented instability, unpredictability and hostility in the region, that's the main driver of spiking gas prices which do indeed gobble up the trivial temporary tax cut crumbs republicans so generously gave working Americans while elitists like creep Steve Mnuchin and his gold digging wife rake in tens of thousands from the very same corporate welfare tax cuts:

  4. JAKE Earthshine profile image68

Well, don't look now, but not only are Mr. Trump's predictable nose bleed gas prices killing his own fans, but many will now lose their jobs because of his recklessly insane 'trade war tariffs': Maybe congress should force him to get his obvious mental illnesses evaluated and treated before he destroys the entire country and perhaps the planet, hallucinating about 'spies' and crowd size?:

Zero accomplishments for the American people, but he did manage to orchestrate an enormous windfall of cash for his elite Wall Street pals: Making Wall Street richer again"

And then, remove him ASAP before there's nothing left but ruble: The tiny crumb tax cuts he and republicans served workers as a decoy for trillions they gave his elite Wall Street pals are more than used up and exhausted on Trump's unnecessary rising gas costs, all caused by this degenerate's intentional disruption of the middle east:

I'm very sorry, Jake, but claims of mental incompetence by someone severely suffering from TDS that has nothing more than hatred to base the claim on is insufficient for the law to institutionalize anyone.  One the other hand, believing that one owns the wealth of others might be a reason...such a person could reasonably be considered a danger to themselves AND to others.

Never the less, the tax cut crumbs Mr. Trump and his republican accomplices so graciously served up to workers as a decoy to give his elite Wall Street pals millions which will add about 7 trillion to the national debt, are all but used up on his drastically inflated gas prices: Maybe when he's run out of town on his broomstick and into a federal pen if he's lucky and then pops off to Bubba, he'll finally understand that words matter:

Because of Mr. Trump's big dumb incoherent mouth babbling constantly, I now pay about twice as much in fuel costs alone just to get across town, and that's unacceptable for workers in PA, Ohio and Wisconsin who just manage to stay afloat:

Aren't you glad that Trump gave you a tax break, gave you back some of your money, and enough to cover the increased gas prices the evil petroleum companies instituted?  At least TRUMP was smart enough to look ahead and think "Hey, gas prices increase every year at this time (due to change in formula), so lets let the people have some of their own money to pay for it".

Friend, if you're paying twice as much in gas, you need to find a different place to live for the gas stations are ripping you off.  Mine went up the expected fifty cents or so - if yours doubled as you claim you have a real problem, and it isn't Donald Trump.  Of course, a more reasonable explanation is that it is just more gross "Jake exaggerations"...

The rise in gas prices has more to do with the economies of world as a whole.  Countries, especially those in the Middle East, Africa, and South America are doing a better job of diversifying their economies.  In the past the 1st world nations did everything in their power to get these countries to focus on a one or two commodity economy. The problem with this is eventually oil reserves could run out.  As such, OPEC and the smaller groups have worked to hedge the amount of oil produced to increase price per barrel, even if the number of barrels in total sold is less AND even if temporarily the amount of total revenue drops.  This is because in many of those nations a large percentage of the oil companies are state owned. When the state relies on the revenue, it is better to bring in a smaller portion of the revenue each year for many years, than to bring in a ton all at once.  This is because for many gov’t officials they cannot help themselves when it comes to spending all the revenue as it comes in. But if you budget them, they do a better job of taking care of things.

Secondly, China is on a buying spree.  They have huge needs for petroleum for foster their incredible growth rate. This again causes a rise in prices. Third, Americans use more energy in the summer. We drive more; farmers use more for their equipment; Cruise ships use more; more flights go out on a per day basis (even if Christmas and Thanksgiving are he biggest days).

The President has very little power to affect gas prices in the short run.  Even if a President opened up new areas to drill today, it would have no affect on the price of gas in the near future, as you would have to spend a ton to research where the oil is. Then even with your research a certain percentage would little to no oil. When you do strike oil, you would spend a long time getting your rig/gear together drilling, processing, etc.  The quickest way a president could reduce gas prices would be to ask congress to lower gas taxes. This won’t happen as the gov’t needs the revenue.  Now California, actually came up with an idea years ago which was soundly rebuffed. They wanted to do away with a gas tax, and implement a miles drive tax. Their reasoning is that cars by their very nature of driving on the roads do damage to the roads., they cause congestion (traffic/gridlock), etc. However, those with better gas mileage cars scoffed saying they already paid more into the state on Sales Taxes (as more fuel-efficient cars cost more) and therefore this tax would be punitive. Gas will never be cheap because states need revenue.  For instance, if the Obama era gas regulations went into effect you would have lower smog, and a cleaner environment.  However, you would have less tax revenue as the tax is per gallon of gas.  States would lose millions.  How, would the states counter act that loss of revenue? Cigarette tax, Luxury car tax, property tax, soda/sugar tax, meals & entertainment tax?

Think about it Jake. There was evidence Iran was not living up to their end of the deal. Deal breakers can suffer consequences. The embassy was 'moved' years before Trump allowed legislation to move it to take effect. Threatening hostilities toward the Middle East is not a phenomenon of this administration.

You can make crap up all day long. It's what you have become renowned for.  But if you want to be taken seriously...start saying something that has some basis in truth, minus the emotional diatribes.
