As more details emerge, all things point toward Justin Smollett staging what he reported as a physical assault by two Trump supporters.  We are learning from multiple media sources including CNN and ABC that two of his co-workers (who were also black men)  were hired to "attack" him.  Chicago police are no longer considering him the victim in this case and he has hired a team of lawyers to do damage control.

Smollett, who is black and openly gay, has claimed he was attacked by two masked men early on Jan. 29 as he walked to his Chicago apartment from a Subway restaurant. Smollett alleged the men shouted racial and anti-gay slurs at him before physically assaulting him and looping a rope around his neck.

Democrats and celebrities were more than happy to immediately jump on the bandwagon to defend Mr. Smollett and simultaneously attack President Trump, but now that details are emerging, tweets are being deleted and stories walked back.

Seems that fake news finally has fake sources.....

Yes, jail time, then restitution on so many levels, not just the financial cost of investigation. He owes the majority of the country an apology, and his crimes should be addressed by the legal system.

What he has done to encourage insanity among people who think like he does is serious enough to be called criminal. These types of hoaxes are not new, but this example of what they are willing to do to spread their hate makes him their poster boy.

The main reason this was never believable is that the kind of person/people who would do what he claimed would have finished what they started. He does not even know the kind of people he claimed attacked him, has no real idea of who they are or what their behaviors are like in real time.

He is ridiculous and those who jumped to give him a platform prove that they have a rabid disease of the heart and mind. Now we have another reason not to believe what we hear from the media. Sometimes, listening to them with the understanding that they are dangerous speakers is an opportunity to learn to hear correctly, but if we do not understand that they are not to be trusted it is better not to listen.

He is not above the law... This man could have caused a full-fledged race riot. We have laws, he should benefit from them. He should have his day in court. His ploy could have worked to set the progress we have made on racism back many years. Time to stop this kind of hate.

Smollett is now in police custody.   The police chef, who is a Black man, indicated that Smollett orchestrated the attack because he was unhappy w/his...…..SALARY.   How IMMATURE can one be?  Not only is Smollett is immature but he is...……..DANGEROUS...…...

He is very dangerous. He could have caused a race riot with his stunt. He tried to spread hate, and that is dangerous in itself.

It was obvious, from the outset, this story was fishy. So, yeh. If found guilty he should have to suffer some serious consequence.

What an idiot. He must have an IQ of about 75 to have thought that ridiculous story would stand up to scrutiny.

Jussie Smollet committed a hate crime and it should be charged as such.

Yes, he should suffer some serious consequences. How about paying for the time and resources expended investigating his fake crime  plus a hefty fine on top of that? I wouldn't be opposed to a little jail time, though I see much more serious criminals get by without it.

I think "The racist, homophobic attack on @JussieSmollett..." was wrong. I think her use of the apparent attack as a political vehicle was wrong.

Of course, I could be wrong too. Perhaps her follow-up messages, (will she still pray for justice to be served?), will prove me wrong.

Wasn't there also something thrown into the mix about him not belonging in MAGA country?
This thing stunk to the high heavens from the getgo.
What surprised me the most, were the comments coming from Presidential hopefuls and media types (although I am not sure why I am still surprised by anything any longer) they were so quick to judge!
This guy, Jussie, definitely has some issues, maybe he needs help other than incarceration.
We will see what all comes out.

Ifit was a hoax he deserves jail time for his part. No excuses for this type of behavior. This is almost as bad as Trump's behavior! No one wants that.....

+100000000000000000000000000000000000.   If it was a hoax, Jussie might as well kiss his career goodbye.  He will be considered damaged goods careerwise.

Just read an update. Maybe jussie should catch a break for diminished mental capacity. The brothers say the spot was hand picked so it would be caught on video but Jussie didn't know the camera was pointed the wrong way, that's why nothing was found by the cops. What an idiot.

Just read in a news story that Smollett's role on Empire has been drastically reduced as a result of this incident.  Also saw this on a news channel.  Told you that Smollett has damaged himself careerwise.   Jussie, kiss your career GOODBYE!

Certainly will.   A million dollar, lucrative career is nothing to play with.  Jussie was a rising star & could have had more opportunities if he was mature.  Oh no, he purported that he was "attacked" by allegedly racist Trump supporters although current evidence authenticated that such wasn't the case.  Jussie made a serious allegation-very serious.  This means that his credibility is sinking fast...………...This isn't the thing to do when a million dollar career is at stake.  One doesn't play w/a million dollar career.  One must have integrity!

Earlier, I heard a Democratic strategist suggesting that maybe it is all made up, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't happened before or will not happen! Huh?!?!
How crazy is this? How do we go forward in any healthy manner, when people actually think like this and what's worse...their opinion is sought after and that warped opinion is shared and repeated over and over....

    1. abwilliams profile image76
abwilliamsposted 6 years agoin reply to this

The 'strategy' continues...all I am hearing NOW is....this kind of stuff goes on all the time. Jussie is a victim, Trump is no better, blah, blah, blah.

      So predictable!

      They'll not own this.

They've created this little monster and they (the Left) never take responsibility for anything. They only create new messes and then move on, leaving it for someone else to clean it up.
It is exactly like dealing with spoiled brats.

abwilliams, from your past forum contributions I cannot resist saying you are smarter than that.

It isn't just the "Left" that never takes responsibility, and I think you know that. By my perception, considering the new emergence of millennial influence, "brats" may not be a terribly wrong descriptor, but, by the same token, when applied to similar actions from the Right what descriptor should we use? My buddy Cred might offer sclerotic as a choice. And I would agree.

The new Left are brats and the new/old Right are stodgies. I think both are wrong.

          Good Morning GA

Chicago is faced with a big mess (which they really did not need) created by an active Hate-Trump-Twitter-Brigade member, leftist, spoiled {criminal} brat, named Jussie. He made himself the topic.
I’m not labeling anyone else right now, certainly not the Chicago Superintendent of Police, whether he leans left or right, matters not, today he is just the adult in the room, scolding and cleaning up the mess.

I liked the Superintendent's response too.It is puzzling that with the evidence, (primarily the "check" payment), that Smulett is still proclaiming innocence.

Now FOX news indicate that Jussie Smollett is now considered a suspect.  FOX news state that Smollett's actions are considered a class 4 felony.   According to FOX news, Smollett was pulled over for DUI previously in 2007 without a license plate, he indicated that he was his brother, not him.  Let's say that Smollett is in...……..KNEE DEEP...…..

He should be charged and given his day in court. He certainly is not above the law. However, he has the right to be treated like any citizen that has been charged with breaking the law. As you or I would be.
