Many of us are wondering just how political Trump will make this historic holiday. Reports say the military representatives are worried he'll go too far in his speech and they'll have to put up with it. At any rate, we'll see tomorrow...

Last I heard, local weather reports were predicting precipitation for tomorrow in Washington, so Mother Nature may rain on the Prez's parade.

2.5 million dollars has been diverted from the National Park Service to feed the ego of Trump This money consists of fees paid by citizens to keep the parks up to date and for improvements.

Why should this money be used to promote a corrupt administration?

This is actually what gets me the most about this circus. I've put a good deal of cash into the National Parks --and state parks, which here are also funded entirely by user fees, and donations. How is this even legal? Oh, who cares if Trump wants it..right?

I hear you. I feel like I've been ostracized by many of my friends and relatives on Facebook. I had no idea that I came from a background of such "wasted education." My father is probably rolling over in his grave.

Yes, a sad situation. The unfollow button has been used on me and by me by a number of my closer relatives. I don't get on FB too much anymore for various reasons and no longer post anything political. I just don't want to contribute to the divisiveness among friends and acquaintances.

The same goes for my father. When I was a child, he would come home from his job in a steel cutting plant and tell me how important it was to get an education so I didn't have to work as hard as he did. I know he would be proud of my education and career.

I don't know, Randyd. But his speech was filled with something. Were the rockets' red glare really happening around the time of the War for Independence and the "army took the air" during that great American Revolution, according to Trump's speech. lol. Downpour, yes indeed.

A former schoolmate of mine issued a glowing report of the fiasco on Facebook. I posted a website with Trump's BooBoo on it, and he really took me to task. He asked, "What's wrong with you...? You weren't like this back in high school. Well, how 'bout that! Neither was he. In fact nobody cared much about politics then.big_smile

This is a familiar story for me. I was a bit of a news/political junkie in high school, but I knew no one in any of the classes around me who really cared too much and I wasn't too vocal about politics myself. Now, these individuals, many of them since Obama took office, suddenly became experts on foreign policy, the economy, etc., and scream about patriotism on FB everyday. Yet, most of them couldn't pass a citizenship test. It's wild.

Oh, bells are clanging in my head! Seems that there is a drift to right-wing populism (dictatorship?) on both sides of the pond. Brexit is a hugely divisive issue here in the UK. It's hard to see how the differences that have arisen will be resolved anytime soon. Like MizBejabbers, I have been ostracized on facebook by some relatives - but they are not particularly well educated and evidently prejudiced about anyone beyond our shores - so no loss there.

Right-wing populism is another term for fascism / authoritarianism. It's rising in many countries around the world. India, Hungary, Turkey, Brazil and the Philippines are among the many.

I bet you a great deal of money -- at least 1 euro -- that Russia is fanning the division in the UK over Brexit the way it's doing in America with Trump and his opposition.

That's interesting because according to an investigative piece, the Russians funded extreme right groups in order to destabilize democratic governments. It's called: Counter-Measures. No mention of left-wing funding. Sorry, kitty.

Also to your point, I find it hard to believe that the massive shift toward dictatorships worldwide is just a series of random accidents.

Not to mention the female Russian agent--Butina, or something like that--who was having an affair with a republican politician to gain favor with the NRA. All coincidental according to the right.  Yeah right...  roll

Exactly. I read one report where a former KGB agent explained by funding right-wing groups, the hope was that countries would focus on internal affairs, ignoring what Russia did on the world stage. It seems to be working, but Russia is beginning to regret it.

While I don't wish to get into the pro and cons of POTUS, I just wish the Americans asked him to change his hairstyle. He looks like a grown-up Dennis the Menace.

P.S. - Apologies if that hurt anyone's feelings. It was an honest opinion.

And Trump still owes 40 million to DC for his inauguration....Will taxpayers cover this as well?

Not mention millions for gold junkets he promised he would not be taking. Of course, only his voters believed him to begin with.

$40 million? How did $7 million get to be $40 million? I looked all over and all I could find was the DC tab. Of course, it was a quick' look so maybe you have info I don't.
