It sure looks like there's going to finally be an impeachment as Nancy gave an interview this PM. The Whistleblower incident has the new DNI  in a bind, and now the person filing the complaint wants--and is going to--appear before Congress this week. The DNI broke the law by not turning the complaint over to Congress as is expressly worded in the Whistleblower Program. Of course, with Barr as the DOJ head, nothing will happen to him.

Just found out the Whistleblower complaint contained more than just the phone call. Other instances of troubling behavior are included in it as well. Surprising? Do tell!

Trump is no doubt confident that the Senate Republicans will protect him even if he has broken any laws.

The new Washington Post editorial does a great job of presenting the most important facts in a concise way.

At this point I don't care if the impeachment doesn't pass the Senate, Scott. People will get a good look at those enablers from the right and will perhaps consider a Democratic POTUS doing the same in the future.

On the other hand, there are Trump people who think an impeachment that doesn't succeed in the Senate will rile up Trump voters and win him re-election.

So Trump will bet on voter turnout among his supporters in addition to Russian help in 2020.

Yes, if they like a corrupt cretin they'll re-elect him. His supporters really don't care if he breaks the law or is treasonous. That much is plain..

Not surprising at all.  The country abounds with claims of malfeasance by Trump, by anyone remotely connected with him, and by anyone that fails to soundly renounce him and jump on the bandwagon.

I didn't watch the whole thing - Pelosi opening her mouth is too much for me to stand - did she give any indication of why she and the Democratic party refused to perform their sworn duty (by impeaching him) for months and months?  I DID see where the commentators felt she is trying very hard, with just this speech, to convince the public it is true - did you feel she is making another political game out of the law?

I think she is doing her duty, Dan. Do you care if Trump tried to blackmail the Ukrainian president? Do you really want a Democratic POTUS who thinks he/she is above the law? Sounds like you do..

The question is why she didn't do her duty months and months ago when there was positive PROOF of malfeasance (collusion with Russia).  Did she just "forget" her duty?  Was the refusal (dare we say it) political in nature?

If there is evidence without this latest crap, then there was evidence that Pelosi (and the rest of the liberal gang) refused to impeach for - perhaps it is them that we need to go after.  If it is just this one, then starting an impeachment process based on rumor only seems far from what we should require from our politicians - perhaps they should be impeached.

          Yes?

Do you think the Cons in the Senate--or the Dems in the House in states Trump won by a comfortable margin--would have been on board? If so, you haven't been paying attention.

Now a larger number of House Dems are on board with impeachment. Easy to understand if you try.

Pelosi said many times that she opposed impeachment until a majority of Americans were behind it.

So yes, she was doing her duty. She was representing the will of the people.

Meaning all of the people and not just the rich people and their minions.

Uh huh.  She was doing her duty by ignoring the law and here responsibility to provide the checks and balances of her position...until the majority of people were behind it.  We always put all of our court proceedings to a public vote before starting a trial, after all.

Odd that I didn't get the letter asking if I was in favor of impeachment processes - I AM an American, after all!

Seems far more likely (far more) that she's playing the political game with her duties than anything else.  I'm glad our cops on the beat, and our judges in the chair, don't wait until they think public opinion supports their enforcement of our laws!

My theory is that the reason why they start an impeachment now is to given Biden extra publicity. It is not so much the impeachment, but it is a publicity stunt to promote Biden above Warren and Sanders.

Could be.  Goodness knows the Democratic party isn't above choosing a candidate without ever voting...

If Pence is thrown out as well for his part in the criminality, you know who will be in line for the presidency, Dan. President Pelosi, that has a nice ring to it! tongue

OMG - a fate worse than death.  If there is one politician I simply cannot bear to listen to it is her - there is absolutely nothing that comes out of her mouth but political spin and attempts to gain political power.

On the plus side it wouldn't last but a handful of months and doubtless the Senate would shut down anything she tried to do, just as the House is doing now.

I know what you mean. She's a woman, liberal and Democrat all rolled into one.

Even worse, she has greedily taken over a high-powered job that rightfully belongs to a man.

I can't think of any combination that far right Republicans hate more.

It is certainly an uphill battle but we'll have to wait to see the nuances of what the call transcripts and whistleblower testimony have to reveal. It would be interesting if this emoluments case comes together at the same time: https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/06/25/ … n-proceed/
