      I don't like the fact either that the news media outlets are becoming so polarized. You always wonder if what they are telling you is the complete story or just their biased opinion. I watch BBC news sometimes to get a different view on world events.

         LOL  Now that just isn't true - that "You always wonder if what they are telling you is the complete story or just their biased opinion.".  There is no "wonder" here, for you know you are getting a biased, slanted and spun version of what actually happened - a version that the reporting corporation feels will gain them the most money.

               I agree!  There are no more "Cronkites" left - the "Hannitys" and "Limbaughs" have taken over the lead "news" organizations.  Political hacks masquerading as news anchors.

         Ah, good times!  However, there was even liberal bias back in those times.  Remember the Tet Offensive?  A military victory portrayed in the media as a loss.  There are other things as well.
         
         I think we are now beyond yellow journalism.

            Mike, you indicate having the same concern about network bias from the days of Huntley/Brinkley, Walter Cronkite, etc., over 50 years ago. Is there an inherent left leaning bias in the news media that seem to stand the test of time?

               I don't know if it is left leaning for that long.
               
               I would say there has been "Yellow Journalism" (journalism and associated newspapers that present little or no legitimate well-researched news while instead using eye-catching headlines for increased sales) since there have been journalists.
               
               It was Randolph Hearst of the New York Journal who had this exchange with a photographer concerning the blowing up of the USS Maine in a Cuban Harbor.
               
               The photographer said, “Everything is quiet. There is no trouble. There will be no war. I wish to return.”
               Hearst sent back a note: “Please remain. You furnish the pictures and I’ll furnish the war.”
               
               This led to the Spanish American War of 1898.
               
               The difference today is that the left has taken control of school to indoctrinate students at journalism school and now we have the mess we have.
               
               I went to journalism school and I know it would shock you that I got into strong discussions with more than one fellow student as well as professor.

                  Yes, "yellow journalism" is sensational and was exaggerated and place there in pursuit of an agenda, fomenting the Spanish-American War.
                  
                  You mentioned earlier about a "left wing " bias in regards to how the Tet offensive was reported. Many on the right might have blamed the media during the 1960s as responsible for the anti-Vietnam mood that dominated the scene during the late part of the 1960s and early 70s. Did you really think that that stance from mainstream journalism at the time wasn't warranted?
                  
                  I don't know about the doctrination, but the "right" has its preferred sources of news and information and depending on which angle you view as credible or not, we make our choices.

                     I still believe what a journalism professor once told me, "You report all the facts and let the reader decide."

   It's not liberal. It's just not telling you what you want to hear or confirming your own beliefs. It's news.
