      You are a legal, long-term resident of the United States recognized by the law as a citizen.

      Other than that, you're pressing an ignorant agenda based in some form of hate.

      All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the State wherein they reside.

      If your parents were legal immigrants, and you were born and breed in America legally, you're an America.          And besides, the law can bestore an America citizenship on a foreigner, who reside legally long time, and conform to the America custom and culture.

      Freedom to a great extent.  Speech and thought--- The freedom to make my own decisions. To work and strive to be self-sufficient. Freedom to obtain an education.  To bring up a family in a country that offers them the same opportunities as I sought to enjoy.  Freedom to enjoy the spoils of my hard work... 

      All of these freedoms have provided me with the right to hope, dream.  A wonderful joyful life. Yeah --- freedom!

      To have the freedom to express one's opinion.

      A right to life and liberty.

      Opportunity for all regardless of race, sex or religion.

      The ability to protect oneself (and one's home) from harm.

      We are seeing flourish overnight almost, the most oppressive and aggressive effort to stamp out those who would speak their minds and defend their communities & country.

      A good example, and recent one, is what has happened to Rep John Deberry, who stood up and spoke his opinion:

      And because of that he was ousted by the Democratic Party's executive committee. There is no room in the Democratic Party for truth, decency or the American way... hopefully enough Americans wake up to this truth before it is too late.

        It is very obvious they will oust or cancel out their own. There is no longer room for this kind of party in our Government. They oppose our Constitution and have become dangerous to the general public.

          I have watched both more than once, thought about going with the longer one, but I think the message he was making seemed clearer without the emotional foray into MLK's demise.

          I often take that editorial initiative with many of my posts here, I look at what I have typed then take out whole paragraphs, get the main point across, in as brief a manner as possible.

          People don't typically want to read a novel of a response, and won't sit and watch a long video.

          It is stirring, it is 100% spot on, and what was done to him for having the courage to give his opinion also makes a strong point.

    This question made me stop and think. Some of us have ancestors who have been in this country so long that we can't relate to anywhere else. OK, my DNA test says I'm approximately 51.5% English and Irish and over 29% French and German, with some other European mixed in. (It doesn't show the Native American ancestry that my family says we have.) But I can't relate to any of that. Some of my ancestors were here in New Amsterdam prior to the coming of the famous Mayflower in 1620, then I found I had ancestors on the Mayflower. I've checked and found my latest immigrant ancestor was here before the Revolutionary War. So you see why I can't relate to any other country? I can't speak French or German or even imagine living there or in the British Isles. (I certainly do not have anything against those countries, I'm just ignorant of their experiences.)
    Out of curiosity, I studied Russian and Soviet history, and I even made a trip to the Soviet Union around New Years 1989-1990. I saw how these people lived in fear that they would say or do something wrong and be arrested by the KGB. The oppression was so thick in the atmosphere we Americans felt like we could cut it with a knife. We all were so relieved when that airplane flew us out of there and into Finland. It felt like we had taken a bath and washed dirt off our bodies.
    If anyone was expecting rah rah politics out of me, I'm sure I disappointed you. I am an American. It means everything to me. My family has been American so long I wouldn't know how to be anything else.
