President Trump attacked Dr. Fauci the other day saying that people are tired of COVID and that Fauci and the other doctors have gotten it wrong.

Do you think Dr. Fauci is an "idiot"?

Do you think other doctors working to stop COVID are idiots?

Since we're all tired of COVID, should we just pretend it doesn't exist and let those who are going to die just die?

No, not an idiot.  But he IS concerned only with preventing the disease from spreading, without regard or concern as to the cost (financial, cultural, economic or other) of doing so.  That he is not alone in that error doesn't make it a good thing.

I believe he stated explicitly to Congress that he understood that it was his job to give his expertise on the best ways to control the virus while it was other people's jobs to determine how that would affect the economy and life; etc.

I don't believe he has ever said what he thinks we should do regarding opening businesses or schools or anything else. He has stated that is not his job.

Given his expertise, shouldn't he only be concerned with his area of expertise? Does he deserve to be called an idiot? I believe President Trump also said he had been wrong on other things, yet Fauci has worked on HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and others. I believe he's considered to be the best in his field of work. He's not a political appointee.

Trump is projecting again. Yes, people are tired of COVID and the idiots who got it wrong, but it's not Fauci and the other doctors who people are tired of, nor is it Fauci and the other doctors who people think are idiots.

Trump is so predictable and so tiresome. He knows people are sick of him and his stupidity and can't help himself from projecting it onto Fauci.

Trump is "the most flawed' person he ever met, said former White House chief of staff, retired Marine Gen. John Kelly.

          Duh.

He did.  And he is right - that is not his job.  But that does not mean that his advice is correct and should be taken as gospel, advice that simply must be followed, not when all the facets are considered.  There is a vast difference between pretending it doesn't exist and just allowing people to die, and pretending that the rest of the concerns don't exist and are should not be considered.  Neither is a proper or good response.

None of which means he deserves to be called an idiot.

The only advice I've head him openly give is to wear masks, which Trump openly mocks. I've heard Fauci suggest responses to different situations and suggest certain behaviors in response to being asked questions.

Also, why is President Trump so upset about Fauci throwing out a pitch at a Nationals' game? Is there some relationship between medicine and throwing a ball I'm not aware of?

Also, and I haven't verified this one, President Trump has said news organizations that continue to cover COVID are "dumb bastards". That seems like an interesting statement given that cases are up so much as are hospitalizations in all but a few states. It seems like this is exactly what news organizations should cover since it helps the public make informed decisions about their health.

He’s effectively been the top infectious disease expert in the United States since 1984, and should not be called an idiot. His credentials are very good, as is his reputation as an Immunologist. He does not deserve being called an idiot in any respect or do any of the other Dr's. that have been working on the virus.

In my opinion, I would have preferred Trump to head up the team with a  true Virologist.  I also feel Trump made a mistake by putting him front and center due to he is one opinion, and he had many Physicians. Virologists, and infectious disease Physicians as well as immunologists such as Dr. Fauci. I would think they could have agreed on mitigations, explain the need for each and every one of those mitigations, and stuck to the true science of why each mitigation was needed. Dr. Fauci in my opinion flip-flopped frequently from the very beginning. At one point Fauci claimed he himself would not travel to Wuhan but would travel to Beijing China, and did not agree immediately with a travel ban.  That very statement gave me confidence this virus was not as serious as it has turned out to be. It was a week later he said made the statement at a press briefing ---

"  Dr. Fauci --- If you put all these things together, I underscore what Bob said: We still have a low risk to the American public, but we want to keep it at a low risk.  And because there are so many unknowns here, we’re going to take the action that the Secretary will describe, in a temporary way, to make sure we mitigate, as best as we possibly can, this risk.  Thank you." https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-st … ask-force/

Should we pretend it does not exist. I would say no... But we also need to consider we need to live with the virus for some time to come, we need to face hard decisions and get back to normal as a society and do the best we can. Otherwise, our economy will clasps. I am thankful we may have a vaccine soon. A vaccine that the FDA will say approve as save. I am pleased we have a couple of good meds that appear to be helping handle COVID symptoms.

Gosh, how did I miss this question? I don't think the many doctors, including Dr. Fauci, who are working hard to keep the public informed and to do something constructive against this virus are idiots. I think the only doctors who are idiots are the ones who are knuckling under to Trump and agreeing with him that the coronavirus is nothing and that herd immunity should take care of it.
I'm glad that sensible people don't want their loved ones to take a chance on dying while they wait for herd immunity to occur.
