OPERATION WARP SPEED - WHO GOT WHAT FOR WHAT

In Mid February the United States realized 15 cases of COVID 10.  Not many may realize Operation Warp Speed was Launched by the Trump administration in March 2020. Operation Warp Speed was set up with the goal to help produce and deliver 300 million doses of vaccines in a record time, with initial doses of vaccine to be available in January 2021. The US Government under Operation Warp Speed made investments deals with six Pharmacutacle companies for research and development, and to purchase vaccine doses by the millions. The administration following the science of virology realizing the need for a vaccine early on in the yet to be considered pandemic.

The companies involved in research, development, and production of vaccines, and in one (Pfizer)  case a contract to purchase vaccine without contributing to their research and development as follows ----

Moderna -- Trump said Tuesday that the U.S. government reached a deal with Massachusetts-based Moderna for 100 million doses of its leading vaccine candidate mRNA-1273.

The deal gives the federal government the option to purchase up to 400 million additional doses, according to a separate announcement from Moderna. The company said the deal is worth up to $1.53 billion.

The U.S. has already invested $955 million in Moderna’s vaccine development, bringing its total investment up to $2.48 billion, the company said.

Johnson & Johnson  - HHS announced on Aug. 5 that it reached a deal with Janssen, J&J’s pharmaceutical subsidiary, worth approximately $1 billion for 100 million doses of its vaccine.

The deal gives the federal government the option to order an additional 200 million doses, according to the announcement. The U.S. earlier this year awarded J&J $456 million to develop its vaccine.

J&J’s experimental vaccine is currently in early-stage human trials and is expected to begin late-stage human trials in September, executives have previously said.

Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline Sanofi and GSK, which are co-developing a vaccine, announced July 31 that HHS would pay up to $2.1 billion to develop and deliver 100 million doses of their potential candidate.

The U.S. will have the option to order an additional 500 million doses, the companies said.

More than half of the $2.1 billion investment will be used for further development of the vaccine while the remaining funds will be used toward manufacturing the initial 100 million doses, the companies said.  Sanofi and GSK have previously predicted their vaccine will enter clinical trials in September and late-stage trials by the end of the year

Novavax -HHS announced July 7 that it reached a deal with the Maryland-based drugmaker Novavax worth $1.6 billion to help the company with trials and manufacturing.

The federal government said as part of the deal Novavax will provide the U.S. with 100 million doses of its experimental coronavirus vaccine.

Novavax’s vaccine, named NVX-CoV2373, generated a promising immune response in early-stage clinical trials and could begin late-stage trials as early as October.
The company said it hopes to begin delivering 100 million vaccine doses by the beginning of next year.

AstraZeneca [- HHS announced May 21 that it would pay AstraZeneca up to $1.2 billion for its experimental vaccine developed alongside researchers at the University of Oxford.

The U.S. will receive at least 300 million doses of the vaccine as part of its investment, HHS said.  In June, the U.K.-based company said it’s working to deliver 2 billion doses of its vaccine, called AZD1222, and could begin distributing doses in the fall.
The company announced promising early-stage human trial results on July 20 and has begun late-stage human trials in the U.K., Brazil, and South Africa.

    Pfizer and BioNTech
Germany-based BioNTech and Pfizer announced July 22 that the U.S. agreed to buy 100 million doses of their potential coronavirus vaccine for up to $1.95 billion.
The agreement allows the U.S. to acquire an additional 500 million vaccine doses, the companies said.

BioNTech and Pfizer are jointly working on four vaccine candidates. The most advanced, called BNT162b1, began late-stage human trials in late July.
The companies said they aim to make up to 100 million doses by the end of 2020 and approximately 1.3 billion doses by the end of 2021. Pfizer did not come to an agreement to take any funds for research and development. However, did get a lucrative agreement of $1.95 billion for doses of the vaccine when it was suitable and confirmed for use by our FDA.

Pfizer Inc. on Monday, Nov 9, 2020, announced that its vaccine in development with BioNTech was "more than 90 percent effective," according to early trial data which still faces rigorous scrutiny before it can receive regulatory approval. Trump welcomed the Pfizer announcement branding it "SUCH GREAT NEWS!", as did Pence, who is head of the White House's Coronavirus Task Force. And tweeted  -- HUGE NEWS -Thanks to the public-private partnership forged by President Trump and Pfizer announced its Corinavirus Vaccine is Effective in preventing infection in 90% of its volunteers.

Nov 9th --- Pfizer's head of vaccine research has distanced the firm's COVID-19 vaccine development from the White House's Operation Warp Speed. While government figures welcomed the program's progress, Kathrin Jansen, the head of vaccine research and development at Pfizer, sought to distance it from them.

She told The New York Times: "We have never taken any money from the U.S. government, or from anyone."Jansen also told The Times that Pfizer was "never part" of Operation Warp Speed.

Ms. Jansen's statement was clarified and updated on Nov 9th.
"Update 11/09/2020: This page has been updated to clarify Jansen's comments following further details from a Pfizer spokesperson. The spokesperson clarified that its vaccine is linked to Operation Warp speed, though its research and development have not taken funding from the federal government. The headline was also updated for clarity."

In the past days, there has been much confusion in regard to the contract between the Government and Pfizer.  The media, as well as social media, has sought to promote or actuation the public-private agreement between Pfizer and the Federal Government. Seeking to [point out one aspect of the relationship Pfizer has with Operation Warp Speed. Putting emphasis on the fact that the US did not pay for the company's research and development phase in creating a COVID 19 vaccine. In my view making a bold effort to divert any promising good news about the actuality that we have a promising vaccine that may be in the first phase of being given in Dec 2020 or shortly after to medical workers and the elderly, as reported in the Presidents press conference Nov, 13.

So, are you hopeful and pleased we may soon have a vaccine to help us combat COVID?

Are you pleased to hear we may also have a spare due to Moderna are also very close to announcing they have a vaccine ready to hand over to the FDA for emergency approval?

In your opinion is there any reason to negative in regards to Operation Warp Speed and the many contracts that were made to bring us a vaccine in WARP SPEED?

Note -- This thread is not intended to elicit opinions on will getting the vaccine.
I pretty much know it would be where this thread would head at this point.
