Here in Ohio they are having a Vax-a-Million Drawing to reward us for getting a vaccine. 5 lucky people will get 1 million dollars. 12 to 18 year olds get a four year college scholarship paid.
Details come out tomorrow with the first drawing set for May 26, 2021.
    What do you think?

Not a bad incentive. I wonder if they will consider anything similar here in Australia. I doubt it.

In the United States I guess others states are also going to give out rewards.  It's suppose to be an incentive for people to get vaccine.
One way to become a millionaire.   I've already had both doses of the vaccine.

Do you guys also have a huge anti-science crowd? Incentives such as this are necessary when they need to get people to their health center.

Not sure of an “anti-science” crowd but we certainly have an “anti-vaccine” crowd. They have an excess of AstraZeneca vaccine because it is now considered unsafe for under 50s due to blood clotting risk, so they are offering it at clinics to over 50s but having trouble getting enough to take it up. I think Pfizer on the other hand is in somewhat short supply.

Oh wow.   We didn't have that AstraZeneca one here.

Not really, tribals who do not know better are often incentivized with gifts to join the developed society. This was a common sight in India and still happens in Brazil. It ultimately leads to a better life for the tribe and in this case the person getting the vaccine and the community they belong to.

I would have to disagree. Most people fear the vaccines for unscientific reasons much akin to tribals not understanding how civilizations outside their own function. Choose not to take it if you do not want to, but use valid reasons and not stuff from fake-news outlets. That is a lot of what I see at least on the news.

Oh and I do not mean to say that the people are acting as tribals, far from it. Just that it is just the typical basic human tendency to fear what you do not know and understand. When there is fake news added to the mix, it gets a lot worse. I just wanted to say I agree with Peggy that it is sad that a developed community has had to drop to doing something like this to incentivize people to get their vaccine.

I actually hope the winners are the ones who have already taken this vaccine voluntarily.

Still coercion smile It's not as if it is a deadly disease, killing all who get it. I lost my sense of taste for a couple of weeks and that was it.

Well, I get the news of one neighbor or ex-teacher dying each day back in India, so I don't really care if most people don't die. If there were no lockdowns and hospitals were overburdened the same would happen in the west. The vaccines are the only thing that are allowing some sense of normalcy to return to life. This is why Germany has norms set in place so that individual cities go into a lockdown if the numbers touch a certain benchmark because without that all hell breaks loose.

People can win the lottery if they go and buy a ticket, I would not call that coercion. This is the definition of the word coercion: "the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats."

lobobrandon, you're so right...you've just described modern day U.S.A. We're, apparently, giving up our individual liberties and becoming more "tribal". We no longer "know better" because the people flock to the "incentivized gifts" dangled before them by our coercive government. Definitely not "leading to a better life", but the Gov has Americans eating out of their hand, nonetheless.
Long story short, I'm in agreement with THERAGGEDEDGE.

We just need to register on a website that will be up tomorrow.
I hope it doesn't crash.  Anyway, if your name is picked they spend 2 days verifying you have had vaccine.
If not it goes to runner up who has had  the vaccine.

There will be five lucky people in Ohio who did the right thing.  There are not enough available vaccines for people worldwide who would happily take them if they could to save their lives and others.  There is something sad about having to bribe people over here to take the vaccine injection.

        Peggy,
        You are so right!
It is sad that the people in the United States won't get vaccine, but I'm sure this will get a few of them to take it.
They have the next 5 weeks to get 1st dose of vaccine to enter.
Entries due each week by Sunday night.
There are actually 5 people who will win 1 million dollars and 5 kids 12 to 17/18 that will get a four year paid college scholarship.
