Trouble in Paradise... Will Joe Manchin be a constant thorn in Biden's side, and stimy all of the Biden's administration best-laid plans?

"West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin said Sunday he'll vote against his Democratic colleagues' far-reaching election bill, the For the People Act, because it's too partisan.

"It's the wrong piece of legislation to bring our country together and unite our country, and I'm not supporting that because I think it would divide us more. I don't want to be in a country that's divided any further," Manchin said on Fox News Sunday.

"I think there's a lot of great things in that piece of legislation, but there's an awful lot of things that basically don't pertain directly to voting," the senator said.

The bill, also known as S1, is the largest overhaul of U.S. election law in at least a generation and covers many aspects of the voting process, including requiring states to automatically register eligible voters and offer same-day voter registration.

The measure also requires states to offer 15 days of early voting and allows no-excuse absentee balloting, which 14 states would have to implement. The states that already allow it would have to conform to S.1’s standards.

"Do we really want to live in an America where one party can dictate and demand everything and anything it wants, whenever it wants? I have always said, ‘If I can’t go home and explain it, I can’t vote for it.’ And I cannot explain strictly partisan election reform or blowing up the Senate rules to expedite one party’s agenda," Manchin wrote.

Manchin also reiterated his support for the filibuster in the op-ed.

"With that in mind, some Democrats have again proposed eliminating the Senate filibuster rule in order to pass the For the People Act with only Democratic support. They’ve attempted to demonize the filibuster and conveniently ignore how it has been critical to protecting the rights of Democrats in the past,"

What has Old Joe said about Manchin?

" Biden points to an obstacle that doesn’t exist. He said the lawmakers, Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, actually “vote more with my Republican friends.”

Which is not really factual...  Fact check ---   "While Manchin and Sinema have indeed been more likely than other Democrats in either the Senate or House to cross party lines, it’s not true they vote more often with Republicans than with fellow Democrats. And they haven’t done so in Biden’s presidency. So far, they’ve aligned with Biden 100% of the time.

"According to CQ Roll Call, Manchin voted against his party’s majority 38.5% of the time last year, while Sinema did so for 33.1% of the votes."   Source-- https://apnews.com/article/ap-fact-chec … b42e28e084

Joe needs to get his facts straight.

What are your thoughts, do you think Manchun will flow through and vote no on Bidens big wonderful  H.R. 1 bill The Peoples Act Bill?

Are you comfortable with the Federal Government taking on the responsibility of writing voting laws for the country?

Do you feel the Peoples Act Bill reflects Government overreach?

The Dems in Washington are not too happy with Manchin... Looks like they have a man that is bent on gridlocking their far-left agenda. And the cherry on top --- he is defending the filibuster. I for one say whoo hoo! Biden's agenda is being chipped away.

I am open to conversations about provisions of the HR1 bill. Senator  Manchin, in my view, is saying that the many Democrats in Congress want to Federalize our elections and that he isn't willing to go along with chipping away at America's rights to be a democracy.   He might as well be saying --  I am not up to the destruction of the election process so that the progressives become a permanent leadership body which is equivalent to the CCP.

I am so pleased that he has stepped up and bucked this bunch.
