Today Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled that Democrats’ plan to slip a massive amnesty for millions of illegal aliens into a budget reconciliation package is outside the scope of budgetary matters. Democrat's had hoped to push the amnesty law by adding it to Biden's 3.5 trillion  Build Back Better bill.

"In her ruling, MacDonough said such an immigration policy change would "far outweigh the budgetary impact scored to it and it is not appropriate for inclusion in reconciliation."

"Democrats and Republicans made arguments more than a week ago before MacDonough, several congressional sources told NPR. Democrats argued that a pathway to citizenship for 8 million immigrants would raise the budget deficit by about $139 billion, a congressional source said, and such an impact would be the rationale for including it in the reconciliation process, which is reserved for budgetary legislation."  https://www.npr.org/2021/09/19/10387767 … udget-bill

Can we really afford Joe's Build Back Better bill, and an infrastructure bill too?

Today we witnessed a sizable drop in the market.   Could the numerous debates in Washington about spending trillions,  raising the debt ceiling to prevent a government shutdown, as well as the threat that the government defaulting on federal payments be spooking the market?   One must ask will all of the above, and then ask yourself, do we really need to be spending trillions at this time?  Could the Build back Better bill if passed, ultimately lead the country into a deep recession?

GOP lawmakers are attempting to force Democrats to add language suspending the borrowing limit to President Biden’s $3.5 trillion spending bill. Passing a debt ceiling measure like that through budget reconciliation would require Democrats to set a specific number for the hike.

      Sept 28,2021
McConnell blocks Schumer bid to raise the debt ceiling by majority vote
Schumer had asked the Senate for unanimous consent to lower the voting threshold to 50 votes.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, blocked Senate Majority Leader Schumer, in his bid to bypass a GOP filibuster and raise the debt ceiling with a simple majority vote today.

Schumer asked the Senate for unanimous consent to lower the voting threshold to 50 votes for a standalone debt ceiling bill.  McConnell immediately objected to Schumer's request, ending the effort and forcing Democratic leaders to seek another path to raise the limit without Republican support.

"The Democratic Leader knew this request would fail," McConnell said on the Senate floor. "There is no chance the Republican Conference will go out of our way to help Democrats conserve their time and energy so they can resume ramming through partisan socialism as fast as possible."

McConnell's move came after other Republicans, including Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said they would object to the request.

"There is no universe in which I am going to consent to lower the threshold and make it easier for him to do so. He's playing games," Cruz told reporters. "He knows he's playing games. The games aren't going to work."

It appears the battle lines have been dug deeper at this point.
It will be interesting to see what the Democrats come up with or will they just go it all alone?

Hopefully, the Republicans hold strong.  If they don't in my view, they will be as responsible as the Democrats for the outrageous inflation that Biden's spending and tax hikes would bring.IMO,  Biden's Build Back Better Plan would ultimately be paid for by the middle class and poor.

In fact, inflation has steadily increased every month of the Biden presidency. And his Build Back Better will put inflation on a hyperspeed track.

Sept 30, 2021  --   Sen. Joe Manchin said he would not support "spending trillions more" on social programs, as progressives stick to their guns that they won't vote for the infrastructure bill Thursday.

Looks like the Reconciliation bill is well detached from the infrastructure.  bill. At this point, the Democrats will be lucky to push through the infrastructure bill.  Which the country would benefit from. The Democrats always try to strong-arm their progressive BS...  Not going to work this time... Thank You Republicans for standing strong.

I guess it will really sink the Biden agenda if he gets ZIP... Seems Joe had lost total control over his party.  He wanted the whole enchilada and may end up with nothing but a soggy tortilla shell.
