Suppose photons do not exist. Suppose photons are a myth. Yet, some scientists invent a way to break this invisible and unprovable photon — into smaller particles. Using this process — they make a bomb that is deadlier than atom bombs or hydrogen bombs: they call it "Photonic Bomb". If the photonic bomb is dropped on a country ~ the entire country will be destroyed within minutes!

United States of America spread this rumor around the world—using the global media (BBC World News, CNN, etc)—that only they have photonic bombs in their arsenal.

The governments of every country know that this is a rumor. But can they control the collective and unified emotions of their populations? Can they attack USA any further — and hope to win elections?

In reading your title the first thing that comes to my mind are the witch-hunts that took place across Europe and in Colonial America from 1450 to 1750, with up to 50,000 innocent (mostly women) being executed in the witch trials.

The most famous of the witch trials in America being that of the Salem witch trials, Massachusetts in 1692/93.

According to psychology, the illusory truth effect.

It would be difficult for the government of other countries, and they would be unable to control the collective and unified feelings of their populations.

However, if the governments of the other countries may be able to disseminate more rumors that the people forget about the first or, at the very least, find the second one to be a relief to them...... Only in this scenario they would be able to launch an attack and can hope to win the elections, I believe.

To put an end to an old rumor, you must start a new one. According to human psychology, I believe this is the only way to overcome this situation. smile
