    The Supreme Court has always been provided an environment of trust and total independence. Last night we witnessed an unprecedented breach of confidentiality” after Politico reported what they called a leaked draft majority Supreme Court opinion overturning abortion rights legalized through the landmark Roe V Wade ruling. Within hours protesters were on the courthouse steps...

    The leaked draft opinion was authored by Justice Samuel Alito and indicated that he, along with Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, voted to uphold a Mississippi law that criminalizes termination of a pregnancy after 15 weeks.

    Senator Tom Cotton is seeking a probe ---  asking the Supreme Court and the Department of Justice to get “to the bottom of this leak immediately using every investigative tool necessary.”

    This leak has quickly become politicized, and the original crime needs to be addressed in my view.

    Will these types of leaks remove the privacy of the court, and open up an opportunity for citizens to pressure and sway Justice's opinions?

    Will the Supreme Court recover or can we now have a weakened court, devoid of trust due to leaks that politicize their decisions? 

    Could these types of leaks bring about mob rule, and weaken the Supreme Court's standing altogether?

    The Supreme Court issued a response to the report of a draft opinion that, if published, would overturn Roe v. Wade, with Chief Justice John Roberts strongly condemning the leak to the press.

    In a brief message, the court acknowledged that the leaked document is indeed real while noting that it is just a draft and that the court has not issued a final decision on the matter

    HAVE SOME JUMPED THE GUN?
    "Justices circulate draft opinions internally as a routine and essential part of the Court’s confidential deliberative work. Although the document described in yesterday’s reports is authentic, it does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case," the court said.

    Roberts, in his own statement accompanying the court's press release, announced that he has called upon the Marshal of the Court to investigate the situation and find the source who leaked the document to Politico. Roberts also spoke out against the notion that the leak could succeed as a political maneuver to influence the outcome of the case.

    "To the extent, this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the
    integrity of our operations, it will not succeed. The work of the Court will not be affected
    in any way," Roberts said.

      I said this on another thread, but this situation stinks.

      I believe this is just a stunt so the Democrats can rally their base for the upcoming elections in November.

      The mainstream media and Democrats leaders are working together on this.

      I don't think Roe v Wade will be overturned.

      I also don't think this will influence the elections in November as much as the Democrats would like.

        I must say, to be very honest, I had all the same thoughts.

        I am not sure as of yet if this all will affect the Nov elections. I have been reading the leaked document, it is very long so just a bit into it. However, It almost looks like the court was about to "tweak" Roe. which might overthrow Roe. This brief is not a final decision in any respect. The Court has verified it to be authentic. 

        I think once some have had time to go through the brief, different opinions will form, and the fact that nothing was written in stone as of yet.   I think it may backfire and, be seen as a political stunt and, a smear on the Democratic party.  I mean we have become very accustomed to the many ploys they have handed us over the past few years.

        Will Americans be pissed off if Roe comes to be reversed --- oh yes

        Will; some be  pissed at this leak? Due to what some will think is a cheap ploy, a ploy that discredits our Supreme Court --  oh yes.

        Again the great divide.

        In my view, the media has lost much of its power with Americans, and the Democrats look very desperate with this leaker ploy. We do know they use leakers frequently to get 15 minutes.

        After doing more reading I have come up with the conclusion this may be blown out of proportion to cause a media frenzy. After reading the statement Chief Justice Roberts put out, it appears 5 justices have agreed to the Alito opinion. But we have no way of knowing what will occur until the true vote.

        Just to your point that it was a Democrat stunt, that was also my first thought: A liberal leaked it hoping to corrupt the process and cause an uproar that would influence some reconsideration. Makes sense to me.

        Then, I heard the opposite. It may have been a conservative thinking that the potential uproar would so anger the justices that it would turn their draft opinions into locked-in opinions. That makes sense to me too—as a possibility.

        This speculation stuff can be exciting tangents. Consider how we all might be like Hercules and Hydra. We're Hercules; cut one way and two more ways pop up.

          My twist: the leaker could be hoping to solidify the five-person majority. In case anyone was thinking about shifting their votes, they will now look like they were simply bowing to political pressure. Not a great look for a Supreme Court justice.

            I don't have a grip on this yet. My gut reaction makes sense as a possibility, but, in consideration; so does its opposite scenario—it was a conservative leaker with the motive you noted.

            Either way, look at the obvious next question; was it a 'lone wolf' or coordinated action, (a conspiracy?)? And so on . . . hell, this could turn out to rival Watergate. That's why I said "exciting tangents".

              I think it was Putin's Psych Ops in action.  It is his way of retaliating for what is going on in Ukraine.  It makes perfect sense to me.  It is a great way of dividing our country even further. They may never find the perpetrator(s) and  we will continue to blame each other..brilliant.
