Ted Cruz warns DHS secretary he could be impeached over rising in migrant crossings
Cruz and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas accusing him of “gross dereliction of duty.” Mayorkas has been a consistent target of conservative ire over immigration.

But it is now being reported --  Biden admin says it has reunited 500 migrant families separated at US border during Trump era

The Biden administration says that it has reunified 500 migrant families who were separated during the Trump administration’s "zero tolerance" policy that aimed to stop illegal immigration into the U.S.

"This is a significant milestone that reflects the tireless dedication of the many public servants in the Department of Homeland Security and across the federal government, including those in the Departments of Health and Human Services, State, and Justice," Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement.

"It is a milestone that we could not have achieved without the partnership and critical work of several incredibly committed non-governmental organizations," he said.

Mayorkas said that nearly 200 minors are in the process of being united with their parents."

The Trump administration implemented the "zero tolerance" policy in 2018 to counteract a surge in illegal immigration at the border, prosecuting all illegal entries. However, accompanying children who came as part of a family unit could not be housed in adult detention centers with their accompanying adults.

The Trump administration’s response was to separate the minors from their accompanying adults, placing them in Health and Human Services (HHS) care and allowing for detention and deportation of the adults. It was intended to dissuade migrant families from making the journey north in the first place."

After outrage over the separations, President Donald Trump ended the policy. When the Biden administration took over, it pledged to make sure that any illegal immigrant who had been separated from their child is brought into the U.S. and reunited. To ensure this happens, it launched the Family Reunification Task Force."

But But But ---- "DACA 2.0: Biden releases 250,000 unaccompanied migrant children into US

he United States is facing the prospect of a major, long-term immigration headache due to the Biden administration's resettling of more than a quarter of a million unaccompanied children who came across the border from Mexico.

Since President Joe Biden took office, 257,110 migrant children have been encountered at the nation’s borders, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Children are apprehended by Border Patrol and swiftly released to sponsors across the country, not returned to their home countries.

The number of children who have come to the U.S. alone during Biden’s tenure is far beyond anything seen before, including the migration surges of children during the Obama and Trump administrations.

Border and refugee agencies have struggled to keep up with the constant arrivals of children, with thousands coming per week. But the biggest impact of this influx may not be felt until years from now when these children become adults and face potential deportation.

While 800,000 illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children have been protected under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program from deportation, new children arriving are ineligible, cueing the need for a new DACA."

Plus Joe, ya lost track of some 20,000 unaccompanied children --- where are they???
Biden Administration Admits To Biggs It Lost Nearly 20,000 Unaccompanied Minor Children

"The Biden administration has finally admitted losing nearly 20,000 migrant children, according to Republican Congressman Andy Biggs. It took the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) five months to come clean and respond to the Congressman.

Biggs had asked the administration in September 2021, for information on unaccompanied alien children (UACs) referred to the care and custody of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).

The response was shocking, but not surprising. Of the 146,000 children in total that had been intercepted, processed, and released to sponsors in FY 2021, 19,726 of them could not be reached for a follow-up by ORR."

Could all of this get any more ridiculous?

Have you ever witnessed such a true out-of-control mess at our border?

Can Joe do the math --  250,000 Biden undocumented cases yet to solve minus 500 Trump cases solved = one hot mess.

"Biden releases 250,000 unaccompanied migrant children into US"

It's seems that he is following the process that is law.

"When a child who is not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian is apprehended by immigration authorities, the child is transferred to the care and custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).  Federal law requires that ORR feed, shelter, and provide medical care for unaccompanied children until it is able to release them to safe settings with sponsors (usually family members), while they await immigration proceedings. These sponsors live in many states.

Sponsors are adults who are suitable to provide for the child’s physical and mental well-being and have not engaged in any activity that would indicate a potential risk to the child. All sponsors must pass a background check. The sponsor must agree to ensure the child’s presence at all future immigration proceedings. They also must agree to ensure the minor reports to ICE for removal from the United States if an immigration judge issues a removal order or voluntary departure order. "

In terms of children being "lost"  HHS Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan said..

"These children are not 'lost;' their sponsors—who are usually parents or family members and in all cases have been vetted for criminality and ability to provide for them—simply did not respond or could not be reached when this voluntary call was made," Hargan's statement said

But Steve Wagner from HHS also says:

"I understand that it has been HHS's long-standing interpretation of the law that ORR is not legally responsible for children after they are released from ORR care,"

Can this process run more smoothly? Laws changed? Procedures changed? Absolutely but that would take our Congress coming together and we can see that that's not going to happen anytime soon.
