Benefits for prisoners

Our newly crowned socialist dictator yesterday forced through a new decree giving prisoners 1.3 times more than minimum wage as a benefit to being locked up. A person working for minimum wage, or for less in many areas, gets hundreds less.

Many think that this was payback for the 100% support he received within the prisons and from the drug trafficers. (Yes, polling stations are set up inside the prisons so that all prisoners, even if convicted of murder or rape, are able to choose the new leader of the nation. Lula, the socialist, of course received 100% since the conservative candidate did not pander to them.)

Are there any of you out there that think this is normal behavior? How many countries pay people for committing crimes and being sent to prison?

In the UK the average pay prisoners earn is £9.60 ($11.76) per week; the maximum they are allowed to earn is £25.50 ($31.24) per week.

In contrast the current legal minimum wage in the UK is £9.50 ($11.64) per hour.

So in the UK the legal minimum wage for an hours work is almost identical to what an average prisoner earns in a week.  Therefore, in the UK prisoners definitely do NOT get rewarded for being in prison.

In the UK prisoners have been prohibited from voting since 1870.

Yes, the voting thing here is pretty strange, and since the lawmakers here copy almost everything from other countries I am surprised they did not notice that the UK and the US do not allow felons in prison to vote.

The prisoner salaries there seem very fair since that is enough to use commissary. More than minimum wage is absurd.

Yep, if you're in prison, with all the restrictions (at least in Britian) there's not much you can spend your money on anyway.

Pay them a "living wage"...less the cost of room, board, clothing, medical attention and guards.

Wow! The U.S. isn't there quite yet, but I am sure a few of our elected Socialist Democrats, are perfectly okay with the concept!
Then, these same Dems would turn around and begin to treat law-abiding citizens, worse than criminals....oh wait, they already do that here!!

I am so sorry that your beautiful Country has been dealt such a blow!
We all know how this works...the world will be shown the people (law-abiding citizens) rejecting this Dictator and fighting to take their Country back; portrayed, as if, they, are the true criminals!

Thanks, I was so disappointed when I saw this that I went to the social security site since I thought it might be fake. No way, he really wants to reward prisoners more than the honest workers of this country. Hard to believe.
