When I look at what DeSantis did with "woke" Disney, I find a Democrat willing to put WALGREENS on notice regarding its rightwing capitulation to conservatives quite appealing.

That places Newsom as a bold Democrat and a man I that can deal with...

Here's another perspective from reading your link:

Suppose all of the political points of the article are set aside. In that case, it seems to boil down to a national pharmacy chain deciding not to challenge the authority of, possibly 20, states' Attorney Generals — the top statewide legal representatives.

Hopefully, within the context of past decades of massive litigations in court arenas of this nature, you can consider that to be a fair statement.

If so, then it also seems fair to say that criticizing Walgreens boils down to criticizing them for following the law instead of challenging it.

You have to add political bias to get to where you are. You are praising a political leader for 'attacking' a business for obeying the law instead of demands of a shifting national mood.

Your position gets worse from there. Hypothetically, (because I don't know) if I were to agree with your perspective of Desantis's actions—that they are wrong and politically driven pandering, isn't Newsome's action exactly the same thing?

Rhetorically, doesn't that boil down to you praising someone on 'your side' for doing the same 'wrong' you criticized the other 'side' for doing?

Isn't your position saying two wrongs can make a right . . . because the other side did it too?

Well, GA, i must stand corrected, Walgreen is just protecting itself from legal action that could taken against them within the 20 states that are making a fuss. And, from what I can tell, California is not directly affected. You are right.

I don't care about the authority of AG in red states. How does that apply to California? I just see this as a red state ploy to interfere with reproductive perogatives in the more progressive "blue states". They could do well to keep their squeamishness within their own borders and to themselves. But, California has not been threatened in anyway, so the Governor is bandstanding a la DeSantis. As long as the rightwing tentacles stay out from the purview of blue states, there is no need to ruffle feathers at this time.

Well hell, you have painted such an optimistic picture of the future of this discussion that I can hardly wait to see where it goes.

The posed perspective was about a legal issue first and the similarity of the actions second.

          In response you offer:

"I don't care about the authority of AG in red states."

          ". . . I just see this as a red state ploy . . "

          " . . . keep their squeamishness  . . ."

". . . who cares about the opinion of a Kansas AG?"

          " . . .  some stupid arcane law  . . ."

          " . . .  goal of the Rightwinger is a national ban . . . "

          " . . . dark forces of political Right."

I don't see anything but partisan ranting. If that is all you have to support your publically posted perspective then it looks like you are doubling down on your belief that the action is right, now, because your guy is doing it.

I have a perception that, contextually, identical statements made by 'Righties' in the past were one of your favorite targets. Using streams of pejorative adjectives you condemn them to the hell of Right-wing bigots, hypocrites, and regressive Bible-thumping knuckle-draggers.

But, when your side is challenged you say your side is right to do it because you don't care about laws or opinions you disagree with.

As harsh as that response reads, I did try to keep the 'cap on the bottle.' Mark Twain has several quips about the dangers of responding with in-kind rationalizations. So even with the cap on it still came out hard.

Sheesh, there's nowhere to go from here.

What do I have to do, GA, I offered a peace pipe and eliminated my initial thoughts regarding this matter? I don't care for conservatives and Republicans for ideological reasons. It is a bit more involved then partisan, it is about ideals and principles. I am surprised that you keep overlooking that.

The Comstock Act is still a stupid arcane law.

The ultimate goal of the anitchoice people is to have an abortion ban nationwide, sticking their probosis into the affairs of progressive states.

I told you that I found Newsom's reaction as premature at this point.

You can challenge "my side" and I admit when I am in error as I am in this case. But my general perspective that the political Right sucks remains firm.

By the way, it is "bottle the acid". And as far as I am concerned the communication lines stay open.

I will give you 'witness' that the political Right does suck, more often than it doesn't. I will also give the Right that same witness—that the political Left is too often more nuts than it is rational.

I don't know the details of the recent moves Desantis has made, so I can't argue about them, but the highlights presented by both sides leave me with the perception that his actions are purely political pandering to attract votes for his potential presidential run. And that stinks regardless of who is doing it.

For that reason, I would probably join you in criticizing him. However, I see Newsome's actions as the same thing. I wouldn't praise or defend either one. They are both doing a 'wrong' and mom says two wrongs don't make a right.

If that excuse didn't work for me I won't let it work for you either. Fair is fair. ;-)

You might want to clean your own house before making such a statement and keep your leftwing tentacles out of the purview of free (red) states.

Keep your "woke" agenda and indoctrination at home.  Keep your money grubbing fingers off our pocketbooks.  Keep your "open borders" to yourself, along with orders not to follow our laws and deport illegals in the mainland.  Keep your BLM riots at home, along with your discriminatory acts in hiring.  Keep your sanctuary cities, and the bills they incur, out of other states.

I could go on and on, but you get the idea.  Far left ideas blanket our nation today; to demand that nothing but far left idiocy be allowed to do is is rather foolish.

Ruffle feathers? Surely that's not what you think your OP was about?

Your enthusiasm was (or appeared to me as) for what you see as a counter-punch of 'pay-back' politics—we can do it too.'  Even after reconsidering your perspective on Walgreens' 'culpability', your closing still just restates your partisan Red/Blue rationalizations. You reconfirmed that the truth of facts won't change your mind.

Newsom, have you taken a look at his job performance?

"Eight months ago, energized by projections of a nearly a $100 billion surplus, Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Legislature wrote a $307 billion budget that lavished money on new and expanded services and rebated billions of dollars back to taxpayers.

Newsom crowed that “no other state in American history has ever experienced a surplus as large as this.”

Last month, Newsom had to eat those words because the immense – on paper – surplus had suddenly morphed into what he said was a $22.5 billion deficit due to sharp declines in tax revenues. He proposed a $297 billion budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year that clawed back some of the money than had not yet been spent."

He does have nice hair. I have as much or more problems with DeSantis from a different perspective

California has always presented a challenge in governance. Who would have said in 2015 that anyone would want to vote for Trump as president?

In politics, 2 years could be the equivalent of a lifetime..

Yes it has.  But those challenges are, for the most part, a direct consequence of idiotic liberal policies and laws.  Things like being a sanctuary state, for instance, inviting tens (hundreds? thousands?) of thousands of illegals to enter and take advantage of California's "freebies".  Things like massive taxation to support their utopian plans.

And we will challenge the idiocy of the Right with their intolerance, book burning, threat to legitimate reproductive rights that will help to keep the Rightwinger in the margins, where they belong.
