Tonight Trump and Biden go head to head offering observers perspective of this and that. A lot 'may' be learned. The rules have changed, but purpose hasn't. Are you going to watch? Any particular topic of prime importance?

Here's a thought . . .It seems one of the 'rules' is that the debate broadcast will be on a 1:20 second delay. (I think it's true?)

That sounds like a dumb move to me. It's a free pass for Trump's base. In 2020 it was mail-in ballots, in this debate it will be the delay.

The delay seems to be debunked and it will be live according to CNN. I read that in several sources, yet they all of course are based on what CNN said.

CNN has shut down a claim circulating on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, that the debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will be aired with a one to two-minute delay.

Several pro-Trump accounts have promoted this claim, which deviates from the standard seven-second delay used in television broadcasts.

In response, CNN’s communications department firmly denied the claim, stating, “This is false. The debate will begin live at 9 pm ET.”

I see a new (preemptive) excuse everyday.

My first impression was of President”s Biden relative age and infirmaries relative to Trump. This was a bad time to have a cold and to come off as somewhat confused and raspy. What he needed to do was to put to rest the public perception that he is too old for the job and I don’t think that he has done that well.

Even though Trump lies like a rug and he is still a jerk in my opinion, but it is his telegenic appearance  of greater vitality for his 78 years that hurt President Biden. Very akin to Nixon injuring his leg, sweating with an obvious 5 o’clock shadow that gave the suave, debonair and confident John F. Kennedy the advantage in the television medium in 1960.

Perception is too often reality, and Trump won that contest. I distress having to turn in my American Flag and replace it with a swastica if Trump wins.

What is it that they say? You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

So, Democrats, we are still in trouble……

Welcome America! Happy debating. I wish both Trump and Biden the best.                                   However, I remember John F. Kenndy, now late who initiated, and challenged to the screen set.                                    Significantly, the model is now an international show piece in most democratic countries of the world. You shut for the Presidency. You're challenged to a State of the Nation debate? Good God! No wonder  Jesus is risen, and life goes on.                                    Seriously and critically, let the debate focus only on the goals. That's gentlmanly. Great America! God's Own  Country. Here I come. I love America.

I am shocked that democrats are upset by biden's performance in the debates.

    Where have you been?

Did you not see the clips of him wandering off at the G-7 summit as well as other places?

Have you not listened to him ramble on when giving speeches and witnesses his in-coherent speech?

Did you not read or understand the part in Special Counsel Hur's report "“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” Hur wrote."

The democrats who are shocked by biden's debate performance have been in denial about his cognitive decline for a long time.

    What did you expect?

The debate illustrated the cognitive issues biden has been struggling with for quite some time.  I believe with him on the debate stage democrats could no longer deny what many people have known for quite some time.

biden has too many cognitive issues to be president.

As for the actions of his Administration...

Well they found a way of unifying Russia, North Korea and China unlike every Administration that has preceded them... I guess that is something.

The Biden Administration drove the UAE and Saudi Arabia out of our sphere of influence and got them to align/ally with Russia and China... that is something no other Administration ever achieved.

The Biden Administration also got those two nations, along with Russia and Iran to dump the dollar and trade oil in other currencies... that will have a big impact on our economy in the years ahead.

The Biden Administration spent more debt than any other Presidency, give them four more years, I am sure they can spend more than ALL the other Presidencies combined... we are likely to feel that a little bit in our inflation however, if you thought it has been bad lately, hold on to your hats.

      Etc. etc.

Regardless, I would trust an old man that for his age and so called cognitive deficiencies has turn the Trump ruined Covid economy around and has a belief in the integrity of the American Democratic system than a man who displays the confidence of a used car salesman, his strength being illusionary and nefarious, much like a mirage in a desert.

But, as I said often, people are dumb and are easily influence by appearances.

That is why I say that we as a nation are in trouble, watching democracy die in the darkness.

There is only one "fact" the public was interested in (both sides) last night: Is President Biden physically and mentally capable of 4 more years?

The debate allowed the public to 'fact-check' that for themselves.

Whether Trump was more of all the bad things said of him, or less, doesn't matter relative to the 'ability' question that was answered last night.

The CNN post-debate analysis panel was the most honest one I've seen. No one tried to spin the president's problems. Or how serious the blow was to the party. They admitted our eyes aren't lying to us, but every 'reputable' White House representative, and politician that speaks to how on-the-ball the president is behind the scenes is lying to us.

As this following morning's news shows start the day, so does the spin. The gleeful Republicans are just as bad. Former President Trump was as bombastic and deceitful as ever. He didn't win on points, he won by default—his opponent disqualified himself.

"Painful" was a repeated descriptor last night and it fit.

      Yes.

Two take aways I have from watching a plethora of reviews of that debate and more particularly the reactions of the 'undecided' voter panels that watched and commented:

They had no idea how bad Biden was cognitively... it shocked them.

That Biden despises Trump (and vice versa) was overly apparent.  This will lend credibility to the claim of 'weaponized justice system' for many.

Yes, painful is a good word too...

For what its worth, Trump was able to articulate a decent message for the first couple of times they went to him, before the whole thing degenerated into an unsightly mess... I have to give him that, especially when you contrasted it to the mumbling nonsense Biden was spouting.

Your take on it is on target... for those who could tolerate Trump's speeches and debates, this was a good Trump performance, if a bit well mannered.

For those who thought Biden was competent (I was not one of those people) this was a blow to that belief.

"For those who thought Biden was competent (I was not one of those people) this was a blow to that belief."

His record of accomplishment is a testament to his competency.  Being an adept debater is a different skill.

Trump's performance was a nonstop stream of lies.  I'm still trying to figure out whether he is just a pathological liar or just a calculating sociopath that believes his followers aren't intelligent enough to question whatever comes out of his mouth?

Either way, Trump was hyperbolic and unserious. He didn't directly answer most questions and deflected on others.  He even refused moderators  attempts to redirect him.  As usual, Trump was full of baseless bluster.

So I find it very odd that we're only talking about Biden's performance.

Trump was asked what he would do to make child care more affordable..

He responded with bragging  about firing John Kelly, a topic that had come up earlier in the debate.

Tapper asked again if Trump would like to talk about child care after Biden spoke.  He began, speaking for another minute about Biden without discussing the cost of child care.

Trump was asked later what he would do to limit  opioids in the United States and the deaths they cause.

His response??  Utter nonsense  that Biden was a “Manchurian candidate” who was paid by China, that his tariff policy worked, that he saved “our steel industries” and a range of other false and misleading claims...helpful? What is this nonsense?

Tapper asked again about opioids without luck.

One more time, Tapper tried. It didn’t work, as Trump veered from immigration policy to Russia’s imprisonment of WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich.

            Can he focus at all?

And no, Virginia's Governor did not endorse murdering a child after birth.

All legal scholars wanted Roe overturned, on both sides? Wildly inaccurate.

The US has provided more aid to Ukraine than europe? Nope.
            https://www.statista.com/chart/28489/uk … id-donors/

Trump claiming that he was the one that got the veteran's choice program passed... No again.  That was Obama.

"We have a border that's the most dangerous place anywhere in the world, considered the most dangerous place anywhere in the world, and he opened it up, and these killers are coming into our country, and they are raping and killing women."

No again. The reality is that there is no evidence that points to a major surge in crime caused by recent arrivals. Trump's claims ignore the fact that overall, crime is down across the country. According to the latest FBI statistics.

"Iran was broke with me. I wouldn't let anybody do business with them. They ran out of money. They were broke. " Not really..

Iran has been Hamas' principal backer for decades, including through the Trump presidency. Records retrieved from inside Gaza by the Israeli Defense Forces and verified by independent news outlets indicate Iran still funneled tens of millions of dollars to Hamas during his administration. Two of Trump's top advisers for Middle Eastern affairs also claimed that Iran was supplying Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups with $100 million each year in an op-ed published in 2019.

"I offered her [House Speaker Nancy Pelosi] 10,000 soldiers who are National Guard. And she turned them down and the mayor of - in writing, by the way, the mayor, in writing, turned it down. The mayor of DC. They turned it down."  Nope..

The final report by the bipartisan Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol determined there was "no evidence" to support the claim that Trump gave an order "to have 10,000 troops ready for January 6th."

The report quoted Trump's Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller who directly refuted this claim under oath, saying "there was no direct order from the President" to put 10,000 troops to be on the ready for January 6th.

"When they ripped down Portland, when they ripped down many other cities. You go to Minnesota, Minneapolis, what they've done there with the fires all over the city - if I didn't bring in the National Guard, that city would have been destroyed." Nah...

Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, not Trump, deployed the Minnesota National Guard during the 2020 unrest.

"Nobody ever cut taxes like us. He wants to raise your taxes by four times. He wants to raise everybody’s taxes by four times,” Trump claimed. “He wants the Trump tax cuts to expire.” nope..

Biden’s tax plan “holds harmless for 98% of households,” said Kyle Pomerleau, senior fellow at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. And Biden wants to extend the majority of the Trump tax cuts, too. lol

Again, does he lie because he is a pathological liar or does he lie because he knows his followers won't question him?

What is shocking and quite evident after this debate is that Trump followers are increasingly accepting more and more outlandish, blatant lies by their leader.  It's approaching flat earther territory.

              I can go with that.

Has us in WWIII... could have easily been avoided... now Iran, China, Russia, North Korea, etc. are all bosom buddies ready for war or already in war.

Has alienated some of the most powerful allies we had regarding our economic wellbeing, literally pushing Saudi Arabia and the UAE away getting them to join BRICS.

Or we could talk about the Open Border and over 10 million new 'undocumented' migrants running around in America that the Border Patrol agencies have become a taxi service for.

Or we could talk about the 1 Trillion dollars of debt spending every 90 days.

Let his record do the speaking for him... I'm fine with that.

Clearly he is incapable of speaking for himself.

With the polls numbers being what they have been, Biden needed to let the American people see who Trump is without the phony fireworks and carnival atmosphere that allow him to conceal his lies and governing philosophy away from so many.

It was important that Biden brought out his A game, because so many were deceived and misled by actually believing that a compulsive liar, convicted felon, tyrant, and a generally an amoral man was good for Office or the country. Trump is great at pyrotechnics and projecting falsehood and having it envelope everybody, accepted like the smog in a large city.

So, I Believe that he needed this confrontation, it is just unfortunate that he did not do as well as we had hoped he would.

Trump was President before, Americans recall that, recall what things were like prior to Covid and then Biden.

The people who were undecided for Trump, who may have wanted to go with Biden, now know they cannot... Biden is unfit and so is his VP.

The damage has already been done, it is a catastrophic level of damage to both our international relations and the future of our economy... the shift away from American Hegemony is only going to gain speed and intensify its impact on our economy and foreign relations going forward.

I said Biden was the worst of all choices 4 years ago... damned if he didn't prove me right.

What things were like prior to Covid was another universe, if more people actually used their heads for something other than a hat rack and actually looked into the environment here 4 years ago, they would not be showering Trump with so much praise. Hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20.

Trump, with his lies and criminal character is the unfit one, Biden just had a bad debate night. Regardless, I vote for character over the glib and smooth tongue.

Reminds me of the failed experiment in Democracy in Germany in 1933 where Von Hindenburg gave way to the crowd pleaser Adolf Hitler.

Actually thinking back to 2019 and these forum comments...

We all pretty much agreed, with the economy doing as well as it was, with things improving globally (less wars not more) and along the border, Trump was a lock to win.

We all pretty much agreed only a disaster would prevent that from happening.

And boy, did we get a disaster in spades, the fearmongering was non-stop, the staged rioting non-stop, it was an incredible effort that allowed them to get Trump out of office.

And they went right back to work... draining the economy... starting wars... opening the border like never before... people really would be nuts to want to continue on with what this Administration has brought us.

"What things were like prior to Covid was another universe"

You may be right, it may be that the genie cannot be put back in the bottle... the damage done to America's reputation and America's wealth may be irreversible.

Hard to imagine how we can undo our escalating war with Russia, hard to imagine how we can mend relationships with Saudi Arabia and the UAE... but one thing is for sure, if Biden and the Democrats are allowed to remain in control, things are certain to get worse for all Americans.

In 2020, Biden was able to think on his feet.  Last night, he looked lost without a scripted speech.  The side-by-side shots amplified how weak and frail Biden has become compared to how he looked in the 2020 debates.

He only used convicted felon once.  He didn't really talk about Trump trying to steal the election.  He pivoted away from abortion to talk immigration.

And Biden's campaign chose the format, so that's not really an excuse.

My last comment about the debate performance of Biden...

We are now in the most dangerous moment we have been in as a Nation, since I have been alive.

The Nation's enemies will see an incompetent and incapacitated President, with a VP that may be more functional, but is equally incompetent, and think this is their chance.

Whether that is Iran, North Korea, or some other unknown... the chance that one or more of them will decide now is the time to plow in, while America has Biden as President, and while we are already tied up in the Middle East and Ukraine...

      Stating the obvious . . .

      Nixon was age 47.
      Kennedy was age 46.

      Trump is age 78.
      Biden is age 81.

      What does that mean?

A big thanks for the link, Ken!! Enthralling!! It definitely piqued my interest while at the same time revived old buried ones. Interesting for me was his interests parallel mine over the years. But, he definitely knows much more and seems to be able to connect the dots. Again, thanks!

Great read offering to me, again, reviving an old passion . . . well, today on and off again. The video makes great sense. I only have basic cable these days and miss the Discovery channels that fed my passion. I should scour YouTube if I revive that passion. I plan on getting Billy Carson's book - Compendium Of The Emerald Tablets. I put it on my wish list at Amazon to remind me.

One problem he hasn't mastered is the ability to refrain from sharing his opinion or insight into nearly everything he is asked.

It means the president after the next one will give orders from grave, LOL.

Now, on a more serious note, it's simply peculiar that the only two politicians considered fit for presidency have to be two seniors, one lying all the time and even believing his own lies, and the other too old to do it for the next four years, considering his present shape.
None of the presidents ever were displaying some superb qualities -- 18 of them even had psychiatric disorders -- so how hard can it be to hire an "averagely suitable" professional liar to do the job?

CNN’s decision to do nothing to push back on or fact-check Trump’s firehose of lies obscured the fact that he was utterly full of crap and rarely answered the actual questions being asked.  Bash and Tapper were horrendous.

Yes, the debate highlighted Biden's stammering and losing his train of thought.  But it also highlighted Trump's  utter disregard for the truth, his manic narcissism and his willingness to only see a world that revolves around him.

Trump called America “a third-world nation” and “a failing nation.”. No, we are absolutely not.    Americans don't buy that.

Trump lied and lied and lied some more.  The man is a sociopath.

I’m far more troubled by everything a second Trump presidency represents. I’m far more troubled by a cruel, convicted felon hellbent on revenge being given immense power. I’m far more troubled at the thought of America accepting a self-serving liar.

Trump certainly didn't win the debate on substance.  He has none. He has no grasp of policy, history, economics or government.

My opinion is that Biden will put a few good speeches under his belt, such as the one he made in North Carolina today and ultimately withdraw from the race.

I think he realizes what is at risk here if Trump wins.  Any number of suitable replacements would mop the floor with Trump in the next debate.

My question for the democrats is....

There has been many calls from many areas of the democrat party to replace biden.

Do you agree this should be done?  If so, who do you think should replace him?

You need only watch and listen to the media to see this is a hot topic among democrats.

He was off in the debate, for sure.  He looked pretty good the next day in North Carolina.  That being said, my preference would still be to replace him with either Whitmer or Shapiro.  The debate didn't change my vote, however.  If it's a binary choice between Trump and Biden, it's a simple choice.

Actually, Trump's denial of the reality of the pandemic and his lack of empathy towards the black community when the police so obviously murdered one of their own in the streets was his ultimate downfall.

And for those of us who could look at abject reality to understand that Trump's economy was a slight improvement on what Obama had left him, just with an increase in debt spending compared to Obama's final term, Biden and trump would have been equally as good for the economy heading into the 2020 election.

As for what's better or worse for America, a president who doesn't bow down to Russian interests is good for America.  A president who doesn't ignore the science of pandemics is good for America.  And a president who is not a convicted felon is good for America.

To serve his country Donald Trump should Leave the Race...

    The Philadelphia Inquirer

President Joe Biden’s debate performance was a disaster. His disjointed responses and dazed look sparked calls for him to drop out of the presidential race.

But lost in the hand wringing was Donald Trump’s usual bombastic litany of lies, hyperbole, bigotry, ignorance, and fear mongering. His performance demonstrated once again that he is a danger to democracy and unfit for office.

In fact, the debate about the debate is misplaced. The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump.

Trump, 78, has been on the political stage for eight years marked by chaos, corruption, and incivility. Why go back to that?

To build himself up, Trump constantly tears the country down. There is no shining city on the hill. It’s just mourning in America.

Throughout the debate, Trump repeatedly said we are a “failing” country. He called the United States a “third world nation.” He said, “we’re living in hell” and “very close to World War III.”

“People are dying all over the place,” Trump said, later adding “we’re literally an uncivilized country now.”

Trump told more than 30 lies during the debate to go with the more than 30,000 mistruths told during his four years as president. He dodged the CNN moderators’ questions, took no responsibility for his actions, and blamed others, mainly Biden, for everything that is wrong in the world.

Trump’s response to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection he fueled was farcical. He said a “relatively small number of people” went to the Capitol and many were “ushered in by the police.”

After scheming to overturn the 2020 election, Trump refused to say if he would accept the results of the 2024 election. Unless, of course, he wins.

The debate served as a reminder of what another four years of Trump would look like. More lies, grievance, narcissism, and hate. Supporters say they like Trump because he says whatever he thinks. But he mainly spews raw sewage.

Trump attacks the military. He denigrates the Justice Department and judges. He belittles the FBI and the CIA. He picks fights with allies and cozies up to dictators.

Trump is an unserious carnival barker running for the most serious job in the world. During his last term, Trump served himself and not the American people.

Trump’s term did plenty of damage and had few accomplishments. The much-hyped wall didn’t get built. Infrastructure week was a recurring joke. Giant tax cuts made the rich richer, while fueling massive deficits for others to pay for years. His support for coal, oil drilling and withdrawal from the Paris Agreement worsened the growing impact of climate change.

Trump stacked the judiciary with extreme judges consisting mainly of white males, including a number who the American Bar Association rated as not qualified. A record number of cabinet officials were fired or left the office. The West Wing was in constant chaos and infighting.

Many Trump appointees exited under a cloud of corruption, grifting and ethical scandals. Trump’s children made millions off the White House. His dilettante son-in-law got $2 billion from the Saudi government for his fledgling investment firm even though he never managed money before.

Trump’s mismanagement of the pandemic resulted in tens of thousands of needless deaths. He boasts about stacking the Supreme Court with extreme right-wingers who are stripping away individual rights, upending legal precedents, and making the country less safe. If elected, Trump may add to the court’s conservative majority.

Of course, there were the unprecedented two impeachments. Now, Trump is a convicted felon who is staring at three more criminal indictments. He is running for president to stay out of prison.

If anything, Trump doesn’t deserve to be on the presidential debate stage. Why even give him a platform?

Trump allegedly stole classified information and tried to overturn an election. His plans for a second term are worse than the last one. We cannot be serious about letting such a crooked clown back in the White House.

Yes, Biden had a horrible night. He’s 81 and not as sharp as he used to be. But Biden on his worst day remains lightyears better than Trump on his best.

Biden must show that he is up to the job. This much is clear: He has a substantive record of real accomplishments, fighting the pandemic, combating climate change, investing in infrastructure, and supporting working families and the most vulnerable.

Biden has surrounded himself with experienced people who take public service seriously. He has passed major bipartisan legislation despite a dysfunctional Republican House majority.

Biden believes in the best of America. He has rebuilt relationships with allies around the world and stood up to foes like Russia and China.

There was only one person at the debate who does not deserve to be running for president. The sooner Trump exits the stage, the better off the country will be.

Agreed.  Why is the media ignoring Trump's debate performance?

Eye-popping 72% don’t think Biden has the mental and physical strength to be president: poll

A jaw-dropping 72% of registered voters do not believe President Biden has the “mental and cognitive health necessary to serve as president” — as he continues to trail Donald Trump, two new polls show.

Only 27% of respondents in a CBS News/YouGov poll felt that Biden, 81, possesses the necessary mental strength needed for the grueling duties of the commander-in-chief, marking a drop in the finding from just over two weeks ago (35% “does,” to 65% “does not”).

The prior survey was taken June 9. The new one was conducted between June 28-29 to gauge the aftermath of the debate against former President Donald Trump that over 51 million watched.

Among Democratic voters, 59% believe Biden has the cognitive faculties necessary to be president, compared to 41% who don’t. This is down from 71% “does” to 29% “does not” in the June 9 poll.

Meanwhile, a Data for Progress survey showed Biden still lagging behind Trump in a presidential match-up.

Forty-five percent said they would choose Biden, while 48% indicated they would pull the lever for Trump, according to the survey, which polled 1,011 voters Friday.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who has been described as an obvious choice to replace Biden if he bows out of the race, would lose to Trump, too, by the same margin, the poll said.

According to the CBS poll, in another bad sign for Biden, only 54% of Democrats believe he should be running for president, compared to 46% who don’t want him running, a 10-point plunge from 64% to 36% back in February, respectively.

Among the electorate writ large, 72% say he shouldn’t be running, while 28% want him to, marking a dip from 63% to 37% back in February.

When asked to explain their concerns about Biden’s fitness, 86% cited his age, 71% the decisions he could make in office, 66% his record and 59% his ability to campaign.

Doesn´t matter for fans. Hitler and Mandela (take your pick...) also were in jail before they became the leader of the country.
How I see it is that when you vote Biden, you vote for a team. When you vote Trump you vote for a family. Democracy versus Mafia style leadership.

        That is an interesting take.

Anyone that does some rudimentary research... someone that does not merely read headlines and accept them as fact... will likely conclude that the NY Justice system, Judge, Jury, and AG were all selected to get the results we have seen.

In other words a weaponized Justice system.

We are on the doorstep of being in the same realm as:

Lavrentiy Beria, the most ruthless and longest-serving secret police chief in Joseph Stalin’s reign of terror in Russia and Eastern Europe, bragged that he could prove criminal conduct on anyone, even the innocent.

“Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime” was Beria’s infamous boast. He served as deputy premier from 1941 until Stalin’s death in 1953, supervising the expansion of the gulags and other secret detention facilities for political prisoners.

        Read more at: https://www.oxfordeagle.com/2018/05/09/ … the-crime/

We have many Americans rotting in jail who are there for doing nothing more than showing up at a rally and waiving the American flag.

We are not to the point where we have gulags yet, but interestingly enough, we may have a new 21st century version being unfolded soon... in Europe it is already being deployed, perhaps you have heard about the EU Digitial currency?

        https://www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/digital_ … 0currency.

Consider how China operates, something I wrote years ago about...

        https://hubpages.com/politics/How-China … our-future

Say the wrong things in China, protest against the state, and they take access to digital currency away from you, they take the ability to travel and work away from you... and/or in China, they throw you in 'jail' aka worker camps.

I do find it difficult to understand how people still fall for all the labeling and smearing they do against Trump... he has been President already, even during Covid when he could have tried to declare martial law he didn't... that mostly occurred in America in Democrat controlled states.

States like Florida, run by Republicans, minimized the draconian suppression of freedoms, lifting restrictions as soon as it seemed prudent.
