In Gallup’s most recent poll, only 38 percent of Americans voiced a favorable view of the Democrats, the party’s worst showing in at least three decades. Quinnipiac University, meanwhile, pegs approval of congressional Democrats at just 21 percent, an all-time low. And some of this disdain is coming from inside blue America: Only 40 percent of Democratic voters are “satisfied” with their party’s approach to fighting Donald Trump, according to Quinnipiac; in CNN’s polling, that figure is 22 percent.
Nevertheless, by some metrics, the Democrats’ approach to combating Trump (bringing lawsuits and holding an occasional, little-watched news conference) appears to be working. When Trump took office, Americans approved of him by an 8.2-point margin, according to 538’s polling average. As of this writing, that figure is down to a mere 0.8 points. For context, at this point in Joe Biden’s presidency, Americans still approved of his job performance by more than 15 points. It is unusual for a president to see their approval fall this low this quickly. Meanwhile, Elon Musk — the face of the GOP’s push to cull the federal bureaucracy — is even more disliked than Trump.
At least in some surveys, the public’s anxieties about Trump and Musk overwhelm their antipathy for the Democrats: In a Washington Post/Ipsos poll, voters said they preferred Democrats to control the next Congress by a 54 to 41 percent margin. And the betting market Kalshi currently gives the party a roughly 75 percent chance of retaking the House of Representatives in 2026.
The dissonance between the Democrats’ exceptionally bad approval ratings — and the party’s seemingly rosy (albeit, very early) outlook in the upcoming midterms — is not hard to explain. Through Trump’s crusade to increase Americans’ cost-of-living through tariffs, Musk’s haphazard vandalism of the federal government, and congressional Republicans’ pursuit of unpopular Medicaid cuts, the GOP is doing the opposition’s work for it.
Oh yes, the economy and stock market crashing all around us and a recession looming... Please tell me more about Democrats...
There are more than 100 protests planned at Tesla dealers this weekend on top of a multitude of other protests. What time in recent history have you ever seen people out in the streets like they are now? And it's only growing... Go figure, people don't like losing their retirement savings at the hands of billionaires.
I don't think I'd be making a case about "popularity" right about now
"There are more than 100 protests planned at Tesla dealers this weekend on top of a multitude of other protests."
Some people have too much time on their hands.
The right really doesn't engage in such types of protests as they have jobs. The left should follow this example.
Protests paid for by your Progressive NGOs funded by USAID...
LOL is it really hard to believe that people would be unhappy with the economy tanking and their retirement savings disappearing before their eyes? No one is happy with Musk and Trump right now... I mean other than die hard magas I guess.

The left vs MAGA.
The democrats need to realize their behavior is causing a major shift away from them. This was taken on 3/16/25
"CNN Poll: Dems' Favorability Rating Sinks to Record Low
Democrats' favorability ratings sank to a record low in the latest CNN poll released Sunday.
Opposing the popular-vote winner in President Donald Trump, obstructing his agenda and efforts to cut government waste, fraud, and abuse, and threatening to shut down the government by rejecting their own President Joe Biden-era spending levels in a continuing resolution did not sit well with registered Democrats and left-siding independent adults.
Even a majority of Democrat adults (52%) are saying the leadership of the party is taking things in the wrong direction.
That eye-popping poll result flips the majority that had sided otherwise eight years ago at the start of the first Trump administration, according to CNN.
Democrats' favorability has dropped 20 points since January 2021 when Biden first took office after Jan. 6, falling now to 29% – a record low dating back to 1992 when former President Bill Clinton came in to defeat sitting President George H.W. Bush. The Republican Party had held the White House for three full terms through former President Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush before Clinton was elected in 1992.
Democrats and Democrat-siding independents give their own leaders just 63% favorability, which is down from 72% in January and 81% at the start of the Biden administration.
Republicans are far more happy with their leaders, as 79% of Republicans and GOP-siding independents have a favorable view of Republicans.
House GOP Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has called Democrats "leaderless" and "rudderless," and those polled largely agree.
When asked who among Democrats "best reflects the core values" of the party (with no names and just a blank space to respond):
30% did not name someone.
10% said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris 9%.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., 8%.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., 6%.
Former President Barack Obama 4%.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, 4%.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., tied with many others at 2%.
"No one: That's the problem," one respondent wrote, CNN reported. "That's the problem."
https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/16/politics … index.html
LOL I don't think the American public is blaming the Democrats right now for the economy and the stock market being a dumpster fire... Maga has the White House , the Senate and the house...this is ALL you. elon and trump are ruining this country but you want to talk about Democrats?? LOL Please, maybe you would rather entertain us with how great things are right now. You really don't understand how pissed people are right now?
News flash...AOC didn't crash the stock market...trump did that.
Did these people seem content and happy?
https://x.com/_ChristopherM/status/1900721454624501951
"elon and trump are ruining this country but you want to talk about Democrats??"
In my experience liberals (Democrats) have never been able (or willing) to look past the end of today and consider the effect of their grandiose plans on tomorrow. They still can't, or they would understand what Trump is trying to do.
Now, it may work, it may not. Either way, though Trump is trying to improve the country, and that's something Democrats haven't tried for many decades. They just throw money (confiscated from other people) at any problem they can find and cover up the symptoms of problems without ever attempting to solve them.
How do you explain the democrat party being at historic lows in popularity?
It seems the American public doesn't like the democrat party for some reason.
Oh, and, the stock market didn't "crash." Why does the left use words it's obvious they don't understand. Anybody who really is involved in the market would refer to this as a market correction. If you want to learn about a market crash you need to learn about panic selling. None of the big investors are panicked by anything they see in the market. It is doing now what the market has done for decades. It makes a correction and then slowly moves back.
As far as the economy goes you might want to read a paper by Purdue University to put things into perspective.
"By most measures, the United States economy is in fine shape. The recession that many dreaded for 2023-24 never happened. Gross domestic product grew at accustomed rates in 2024. Though the unemployment rate increased, it remains at historically low levels. Inflation continued to fall, though not yet to the target 2%. Interest rates are higher than we’re used to but are coming down. The Federal Reserve achieved its “soft landing” and anticipates more interest rate reductions in the coming year."
"How do you explain the democrat party being at historic lows in popularity?"
Who cares?? They aren't in power. They didn't crash the market. They aren't responsible for costs that keep rising.
Maga has been telling us for YEARS that the economy was absolutely on the brink of a depression and people were suffering at a magnitude that we've never seen before under Joe Biden but 50 days in to the trump regime and you want to tell me how great things are? Absolutely not. Sorry, that's a very disingenuous argument.
The fact of the matter is, Americans are suffering and trump and elon are to blame.
"By most measures, the United States economy is in fine shape. The recession that many dreaded for 2023-24 never happened. Gross domestic product grew at accustomed rates in 2024."
Why are you giving stats that support a great economy under Biden??
Donald Trump's approval rating after his first 50 days in office is lower than Joe Biden's at the same point in their presidencies. On March 11, 2021, Biden had a 53% approval rating, while Trump's approval and disapproval ratings both stand at 48 percent. Gallup's first poll of Trump's second presidency, conducted between January 21 and 27, showed an initial approval rating of 47%, making him less popular than any president since 1953 at the start of their term.

Trump Notches All-Time High Approval Rating as Dems Hit New Low
President Donald Trump’s approval rating soared to an all-time high in a poll conducted by NBC, while Democrats’ favorability sank to record lows across two separate surveys.
An NBC News poll released Sunday showed that 47 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s job as president, his highest-ever approval rating in an NBC survey throughout his political career. The public still narrowly rejected Trump’s performance, with 51 percent disapproving.
The percentage of Americans who believe that the country is headed in the right direction also rose to 44 percent, though 54 percent felt that things are still on the wrong track.
Americans were largely satisfied with Trump’s response to border security and immigration issues, with 55 percent approving and 43 percent disapproving. This closely resembles results in an earlier CNN poll that found 51 percent of respondents approved of the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
The image inverts when it comes to Trump’s handling of the economy. Fifty-four percent of respondents in the NBC poll said they disapprove of Trump’s economics policies while 44 percent approved. Results were similar to surveys by CNN and Emerson College Polling, which found that 48 percent of Americans were unhappy with how Trump is dealing with the economy.
As Trump’s approval ratings rose, Democrats’ plunged.
Only 27 percent of registered voters—including 59 percent of self-identified Democrats—had positive views of the Democratic Party, marking its lowest favorability rating in the history of NBC News polling.
In a new CNN poll also released Sunday, a mere 29 percent of Americans held favorable opinions of Democrats while 54 percent disapproved. The majority of Democrat adults said the leadership was taking the party in the wrong direction.
The CNN poll was conducted March 6 to 9, before the Democratic Party erupted in a civil war after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer handed Trump a victory by voting in favor of a Republican spending bill to avert a government shutdown.
“I believe that allowing Donald Trump to take even more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option,” Schumer argued, even as Rep. Nancy Pelosi blasted him for his “unacceptable” decision.

Democrats popularity with the American public is at an all-time low.
That is a FACT.
This is the reason they will continue to have no political power unless they change.
The question remains how could democrats change things.
The answer is nothing the democrat party do to become popular once again.
1. The democrat party needs to own the biden administration. They need to look at the American people and own the fact that they protected a conatively impaired individual as president for four years. They lied about it, tried to gaslight the American people about it, and now is time for them to admit to it. democrats should admit to it and say they did it, it was wrong, and it shouldn't have happened.
2. The democrat party needs to stop their obsession with males playing in female sports. This is an 80 - 20 issue. 80% of the American people don't want males playing in female sports. It is a huge losing issues and it amazes me that this is a political hill democrats are willing to die on. For what reason, I do not know, it makes no sense.
3. Quit hating MAGA people because they are MAGA people. Accept people have different political views. It doesn't make them anything other than someone who doesn't agree with a democrat or liberal on political issues. It is possible to like a person but hate their political views. It's called maturity. Hating, threatening physical violence, performing acts of vandalism only makes the American public like liberals even less. democrats should try this change. They may like the results.
4. democrats need to own the fact that they did everything within their power to stop President Donald Trump. Everything legal, illegal, ethical as well as unethical. He still won. democrats need to realize his win says more about them than it does President Donald Trump. democrats need to understand why they lost the American public when it comes to President Donald Trump. They need to try to understand how this plays into them being so dramatically unpopular.
5. democrats need to come to grips with the fact that kamala harris didn't lose the election because of racism or misogyny. She was a horrible candidate. She struggled to give interviews without looking like an idiot. She avoided the press and wasn't transparent. She changed many of her political views once she got the nomination. Many people didn't trust this behavior.
6. I feel good in sharing this because I know democrats won't listen, understand or fully comprehend what I've written. They don't change. They are lost in their TDS world and don't show any signs of leaving it. Their inability to see the need for a major change and their lack of skills when it comes to implementing important changes has doomed them. This is what will keep the Republican party in power for a very long time.
LOL why are you so focused on the Democrats? Why would anyone be talking about Kamala Harris right now? maga is in power right now. We are under a maga regime that has us on the brink of a recession. Because of maga, millions of folks have lost their retirement funds... Let that sink in. You voted for this.
"Wall Street’s recession odds are starting to look like a coin flip as Trump refuses to back down on his trade war .."
FANTASTIC NEWS? This is ALL MAGA
J.P. Morgan economist sees 40% US recession chance and risks to 'exorbitant privilege'
Instead of talking about Democrats, shouldn't you be telling us about how great things are under a trump regime right now?
https://fortune.com/2025/03/16/recessio … s-bessent/
Nothing you wrote is true. The economy is NOT on brink of a recession. Millions of folks haven't lost their retirement funds. Stop gaslighting. Starts grasping reality.
I provided some good advice for democrats.
You have proven me right on #6
The left is so predictable.
No one is blaming Democrats for the catastrophic State this country is currently in, sorry.
"US stock market loses $4 trillion in value as Trump plows ahead on tariffs"
That's REAL money.
As long as he keeps tanking the market and the economy, there's a very good chance he won't even finish this term... Do you really think that many in this bunch won't turn against him to save their own hides? LOL Vance would be the first one. And news flash, no one cares about transgender athletes
You need to grasp the reality that the stock market and the economy are not tanking.
News Flash - dEMOCRATS care about men playing in women sports. Liberal states are defying and Executive Order to prevent men from playing in women sports. The dEMOCRATS prevented a bill from coming to the floor for a vote that would have prevented men from playing in women sports. Some one in the democrat party has to know that 80% of the American public doesn't want men playing in women sports.
This is a contributing factor to the low popularity of democrats.
I am always amazed that democrats have no idea what they are doing to themselves.
Americans aren't waking up this morning to see if transgenders are slipping into Athletics... They are focused on how much money they're going to lose in their retirement funds today. The vast majority of Americans strongly disagree with trump's handling of the economy. When transgender folk affect my bottom line maybe then I'll get pissed at them... Otherwise localities can handle the issue just fine. This is purely a look here not there issue and Americans aren't stupid enough to fall for that nonsense... As evidenced by them pouring out onto the streets in larger numbers every weekend
"You need to grasp the reality that the stock market and the economy are not tanking.
How much have you lost? trump has managed to tank the DOW and S&P by over 10% in his first 50 days.
His economic ignorance is tanking the economy.
This isn’t some random dip—it’s a direct reaction to reckless policies, zero strategy, and a White House that has no clue how global markets work. The fact that even MAGA’s usual enablers are speaking up tells you everything you need to know.
We went from having an economy that was the best in the world to being in the shitter...even Trump himself would not rule out a recession. Billionaires looking out for billionaires while Americans can’t afford to buy eggs
But please tell me more about five transgenders....
Funny thing about those of us who have dealt with stocks for awhile.
We've seen market corrections more than once. By the end of the next quarter the Dow, NASDAQ, Russell, and other indexes will be back and growing. The stock market moves in cycles. Seen it many times.
The economy is sound. All the drama based on a lack of knowledge of economics in the world can't change this. It just makes those on the left look rather silly.
I always wonder why the democrat party is in such disarray.
From this forum and the democrats I speak with who are fed up with their party I have a pretty good understanding.
The radical left with their bizarre takes on things and idiotic dramatic rants are the cause for its ruin. The democrats closest to the center of the political spectrum have been pushed aside by the low-information left radicals. It was once a great party that has now become the party of special interests and left lunacy.
The only way democrats will ever get in power again is if the democrats closest to the center regain majority control over the party. These are the sane and rational democrats who can actually discuss things on an intelligent basis and not an emotional ranting tirade.
It is just more evidence that TDS is a very real thing.
It's sad, but only time will tell if the democrats closest to the center don't decide to splinter off and form a 3rd party. I know there has been talk of it.
Behind the Curtain: Dems' dark, deep hole
Top Democrats tell us their party is in its deepest hole in nearly 50 years — and they fear things could actually get worse:
The party has its lowest favorability ever.
No popular national leader to help improve it.
Insufficient numbers to stop most legislation in Congress.
A durable minority on the Supreme Court.
Dwindling influence over the media ecosystem, with right-leaning podcasters and social media accounts ascendant.
Young voters are growing dramatically more conservative.
A bad 2026 map for Senate races.
Democratic Senate retirements could make it harder for the party to flip the House, with members tempted by statewide races.
There are only three House Republicans in districts former Vice President Harris won in 2024, a dim sign for a Democratic surge. There were 23 eight years ago in seats Hillary Clinton won.
And, thanks to the number of people fleeing blue states, the math for a Dem to win the presidency will just get harder in 2030.
Why it matters: Both parties — after losing the White House, Senate and House — suffer and search for salvation. But rarely does healing seem so hard and redemption so distant.
Doug Sosnik — a senior adviser to President Bill Clinton, and widely followed thinker on political megatrends — told us this is Dems' deepest hole in at least the 45 years since Ronald Reagan's victory in 1980. Sosnik said the 2024 election was at least as much a repudiation of Democrats as it was a victory for Trump.
As Ezra Klein noted this month in his New York Times column, if current population patterns hold, Democrats will suffer a devastating blow after the 2030 census: The party will lose as many as a dozen House seats and electoral votes.
