    Background article.

    https://www.salon.com/2025/06/04/what-i … democrats/

So, the “centrist” version Democrat is to find common ground with an administration far more abominable than any one that had preceded it?

Or with An administration that scoffs at the rule of law and the role of the Judicial branch. Using his government office to pursue personal vendettas and grievances?

All the same, usurping powers explicitly granted the Legislative Branch and Judicial Branch?

Oil and water does not mix. Any compromise with Trump and Trumpism from the Democrats. I consider as appeasement and general weakness.

So, billionaires like the “middle ground” for Democrats? Big money people are always self-serving as I believe that centralist democrats are merely just “Trump light”. The political chasm is so great now that there can be no healing. I abhor cowards that shrink from engaging in the struggle necessary to get back to adherence to the Constitution first and foremost, rather than allowing a would be dictator to have his way in virtually all aspects of American life. It is essential that our left leaning Democrat faction lead the fight that will be necessary and it has to be fight to the finish, no shrinking violets allowed.

Why do you think the popularity of the democrat party is at an all time low?

I hear you, Mike, it may regard the same political circumstances as to why the GOP popularity descended to new lows in 2008.

With the Harris sudden replacement for Biden, who I believed did well with the economy after Trump mishandling, the issue about Biden’s cognitive state and Harris’ replacement confused the electorate. Leaving Trump, a soiled but known entity, to fill the void.

The party is at a low because they have been weak and sits on its hands while Trump absconds with the Government. A stronger resistance and forceful stand against Trump is needed, and the party can’t continue to present a wishy-washy image. With hopeful changes in Congress next year, just maybe the idea of sporting a backbone might come into vogue, that is if the ability to actually vote for alternative candidates can survive that long.

The electorate is fickle and their affinities can change on a dime. If this economy does not improve as per Trump’s promises, that failure may well be the catalyst for a change of the guard.

President Donald Trump has been in office 6 months.

During that time he has taken on more challenges than any president before him

The inflation rate is low and consumer confidence is high.

          He is doing something right.

I would say the problem with the democrat party is that they are seen as the party of illegal aliens, criminals, and transgender people.  They are the party that covered up biden's cognitive decline.  We had a country run by biden's staff for four years.

These are the types of things that really anger the voting public.

If the democrat party wants to EVER get back in good with the voting public again they will have to admit to the biden cover up, start supporting American citizens over illegal aliens, crime victims over criminals ,  and join the 80% who don't want boys in girls sports.

That is just for starters, but it would be a good start.

Well, Mike, I believe that the shroud of Trump success and efficiency will last  for a limited time until they run out of makeup.

I think that Trump is a genius in the art of distraction and creating false narratives that mesmerize people contrary to reality.

I am more concerned about violations of the Constitution rule of Law and due process, which means that he could bag you up and send you to another planet and no one would be the wiser.

The rules of governance are there for a reason and I expect all my elected officials to stay within the guardrails so established and I have an inherent distrust of those that do not, agenda or no. But, I guess that is what makes me a “lefty”

That fundamental issue supersedes any other issues that are within the realm of politics, in my opinion.

Trump will have the temerity to continue crossing lines and that is where his trouble will lie. Watch for it.

    My view

Cred, it’s telling that any call for moderation or unity is now treated as a betrayal. You speak of compromise as appeasement, but that mindset is part of why our country is growing more fractured by the day. The Constitution you invoke was built on checks, balances, and yes, compromise. That doesn’t mean surrendering principles, but recognizing that governance in a republic requires engaging with people we disagree with.

Calling centrists “Trump light” or cowards ignores a key reality: not everyone on the left wants to burn the bridge to half the country. You claim Trump has scoffed at the rule of law, yet fail to acknowledge that selective enforcement, politicized prosecutions, and executive overreach haven’t been exclusive to any one party. If the concern is truly constitutional, that scrutiny should go both ways.

And let’s be honest, billionaires don’t just back centrists. They fund hard-left PACs, green tech ventures, and identity-based movements when it suits them. Power and influence aren’t partisan.

Painting compromise as weakness and calling for an all-out “fight to the finish” sounds less like democratic discourse and more like a crusade. The real strength in a constitutional republic lies in finding common ground without giving up your values, not vilifying those who try.

Sharlee, Trump and his administration has in an unprecedented way challenged the rules of governance prescribed in the Constitution. Usurping roles of both Congress and the Judicial branches, and we both know that.

My attitude is that you violate the rules of the game and not respond to the referee’s call on a foul, the game ceases to be legitimate. Any team that does that I want removed from the field. Because, if you blatantly choose to operate outside of the rules of the game, no compromise is possible. Billionaires will back centrists as a way to mute opposition by the other side to Trump and his policies. I generally do not care for this class as one that is completely self-serving. Everybody knows that Trump gathered far more of his support from these well heeled folks than the Democrats did. So, they become my problem as well. Since when have Republicans compromised on anything? So, no, Sharlee, the war is on and I don’t give quarter nor expect to receive one at this point.

I need Democrats with spine, not wishy washy, to stand firmly against Trump and his regime.
