Heritage, Not Hate: Defending America’s Identity

This year feels different, and I’ll tell you why. When Donald Trump won, it wasn’t just about him as a man or even as a politician; it was about the ideas that so many of us have been holding onto, often ignored. To me, that victory proved that national conservatism isn’t some fringe thought anymore; it’s a movement whose time has finally come. The real battle ahead isn’t about “left vs. right,” or democracy vs. dictatorship, it’s about whether our nation itself will survive, or whether those who strive to erase it will succeed.

For decades, the people running things, on both sides of the aisle, haven’t acted like they were on our side. They’ve been caught up in their own war against the very nations they claim to serve. Look across Europe today: endless immigration, governments ignoring their citizens, and free speech crushed. America isn’t immune to that. Our First Amendment has given us more breathing room, but let’s be honest, the same elites, with the same interests and the same contempt for ordinary people, are here too. They’re not loyal to this country.

That’s why national conservatism matters; it’s a pushback against a ruling class that long ago decided America was just a tool for their global projects. And it’s not only a revolt against the left, it’s also a break from the so-called “mainstream right” that went along with the same disastrous policies. They gave us foreign wars, bad trade deals, open borders, and corporate interests running the show. They signed onto NAFTA, brought China into the WTO, and backed mass immigration, none of it for the benefit of the American worker. They told us it was all “legal,” but legal doesn’t automatically mean good for the country.

Take immigration. For years, we were told America needed endless waves of foreign labor, both “skilled” and “unskilled.” Programs like the H-1B visa were supposed to keep us competitive, but in reality, they’ve been used to undercut wages and replace American workers. I’ll never forget the stories of Americans forced to train their replacements from overseas, only to be shown the door. Imagine being told that was good for America.

The truth is, both parties treated America as just an “idea,” something abstract, something that belonged to everyone and no one. We were told that our entire national identity could be summed up in a few slogans. And if you questioned that, you were branded as backward or even immoral. But here’s the thing: America isn’t just a proposition on paper; it’s a living, breathing nation made up of real people with a shared history, traditions, and culture. That’s what makes our freedoms real. That’s what gives meaning to our Constitution.

Donald Trump saw what others ignored: that millions of Americans were being left behind. Factories closed, neighborhoods transformed, sons and daughters sent to wars that had nothing to do with defending us here at home. The people who kept the country running were mocked as “deplorables,” but they knew who they were, and they weren’t about to forget it. In Trump, they heard someone finally speaking their language.

For me, it’s simple. Our ancestors didn’t fight and die for a mere “idea.” They carved out a nation from the wilderness, built cities, tamed the frontier, and passed down a heritage that belongs to us. That heritage isn’t something to be ashamed of, it’s something to honor and protect.  America has always been a land of builders, explorers, inventors, and dreamers. We’ve led the world because of that restless, determined spirit. That’s who we are.

And yet, for years now, some in power have told us to be ashamed of all of it. They’ve tried to rewrite our story, tear down our monuments, and convince us our history is nothing but evil. They want us to rid ourselves of the very values we once cherished, and even to turn from our God. In their place, they push us to support adverse ideologies that weaken our spirit and divide our people. But I refuse to believe that. The men and women who built this nation weren’t villains; they were heroes. They left us a gift: America itself. That is our birthright, and it must never be surrendered.

I’ll say it as plainly as I can: America doesn’t belong to the elites or those who despise our Nation. It belongs to us, the citizens, the people whose parents and grandparents worked the land, fought the wars, built the factories, and raised the families that made this country strong.

The question before us is simple: Will our children inherit a sovereign, proud America, or will they be left only with shame, scraps, and fading memories of what once was? Will they be forced to look back on a nation that was surrendered, not because it was defeated, but because one segment of society chose weakness over strength, excuses over duty, and division over unity? I know my answer. We are done apologizing for who we are. We are done being ashamed of our history, our faith, and our values. This land was built with courage, sacrifice, and the blessing of Almighty God, and it will endure only if we choose to defend it with the same spirit.
