    This is not good News.

: American company eliminates Labor Day

Tyson  Foods eliminates Labor Day in favor of Muslim  Holiday!

Tyson Foods eliminates Labor Day in favor of Muslim Holiday! I think that you will find this very

interesting. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a  time. How do you take over America ? One American at a  time. Tyson chicken anyone?? None for me  thanks!!!! We all need to heed this message!!!!!

TYSON FOODS ELIMINATES LABOR DAY IN  FAVOR OF MUSLIM HOLIDAY

Tyson Food in Shelbyville , Tennessee has eliminated Labor Day as a paid holiday in  favor of the last day of Ramadan because they have 700 Muslim employees. The fact that they have almost that many non-Muslim employees is beside the point apparently!

I will no longer purchase any Tyson  products. It's just one more little chunk of America that's been bitten off. If you wish to join me, then let your e-mail friends know this. If we don't stand up for something we will  fall for anything. All it takes for evil to triumph is for  good men to do nothing.

        SO?!

WINGERT -- LABOR DAY IS A HOLY DAY AMONGST AMERICANS!!! It represents our undying faith that being lazy is completely OK, and that we should all be paid for not doing anything.

Now that one company decided to respect more than 50% of its employees by making the day represent a holy day of theirs is A SLAP IN THE FACE TO ALL LAZY AMERICANS EVERYWHERE!!

DAMMIT!! I LOVE LABOR DAY SO MUCH!!!

        LAAAAAAABBBBOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRR DDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!

I'm the biggest slacker around and love the idea of a paid day off. What Tyson does is their business and let them deal with the complaints from their employees and stock holders.

I get the feeling that if this had been a Christian holiday we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I do have a problem with this. I don't see a problem with offering one or the other to an employee; or even adding a holiday. But this means non Muslims can't participate in festivities on a traditional holiday for their culture. Sounds unfair to me.

Actually...Snopes says it is a mixture of true and false information... Like most of what you reprint from your emails.

They gave their employees a choice...

That link you posted for Snopes is for a letter someone wrote incorrectly quoting it.

Thanks for clearing that up. Seems to me that the solution worked out at the one Tyson plant was reasonable. Oly's sources are primarily one-sided right wing ones. He should start reading the NY Times to broaden his outlook.

I live near the largest concentration of Muslims in the US, and most of the few problems are caused by right-wing anti-Muslim fear mongers, not by the Muslims most of whom are model citizens going about their daily occupations.

Ignorant right-wing hate groups are a much bigger threat to our democracy than a few misguided Muslims.

Oly has his own sources for info and seldom checks to see if they are indeed accurate before posting the links here.  I always get a kick out what he posts because no matter many times he's proven wrong, he still keeps posting this stuff as if it's accurate.  Obviously, credibility is not something he cares much for here on HP forums.  smile

The snopes link doesn't relate to the Tyson claim at all.

So where is some actual proof for that claim?

    psycheskinnerposted 7 years ago

Oh look, here is the real snopes link:

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/tyson.asp

    It shows
    1) This all happened in 2008
    2) The final agreement reinstated Labor day and gave a floating holiday for Muslims to use on their holy day.

Democracy in action. End of story.

Please, people, check the facts before pitching a rant. It took me all of 10 seconds to get the full story.

This is how certain people operate.  Provide "proof" of their statements hoping that just enough people are stupid enough to buy it without checking.  Sadly, a significant number of people are willing to swallow anything that agrees with their deeply entrenched political ideology.

Reminds me of ludicrous "WARNING!" emails I get forwarded to me from, ahem!, older people, which even have the audacity to say "I checked this out on Snopes and it's true!" and then when I do check Snopes, I see that it's been thoroughly debunked. hmm

I usually email back a link to the Snopes article.

I do the same thing.  Oddly, I haven't received any of those emails for a very long time.  It must be because I'm a party pooper.

Shame on you Evan.  People are working hard and making great sacrifices to produce thoughtful opinions here on this matter which is so crucial to the future of our country. (Think of the children man!!)They don't deserve your mockery.  If you have something positive to add to the conversation, please do so, otherwise maybe your time would be better spent re-reading Atlas Shrugged and meditating on the divine teachings of Rand.

Labour day is dead anyways, we no longer have Labour Unions and we live under globalized corportate fascism. Workers are nothing but debt serfs; and I'm working this Labour Day anyways in a job that isn't in emergency services.

I would rather have Labour Day replaced by a Holiday that is actually celebrated in spirit, even if it's by a religion that isn't my own. Labour Day is no longer a holiday, today it represents the morgue that is working class people. I would go on to say it's a tragedy, now go shop this Labour Day thanks to the retail employees who work with no benefits or bargaining rights!
