In 1996, Newt tried to make bringing more than 2 ounces of pot into the U.S. a death penalty offense. I tells ya, this guy needs help!

16 years ago - I wonder what iteration of values Romney was on then.  Newt was just trying to do what Democrats and moderate Republicans want to do - protect American jobs from foreign competition.

Sorry, UCV, but I think the death penalty for pot is just a wee bit extreme. lol

There are those who would kill our whole economy to keep foreign made goods out and keep "American" jobs here.  I think that is extreme.  Besides you never know where foreign pot has been - smuggling it into the country in your bum should be a death penalty offense.

You're damned right he would be. Pot harms no one but the idiot dumb enough to put it into his body. To make it illegal - let alone to make it a death sentence - is nothing but tyranny.

I'm surprised that a Republican would be so against freedom.

                    He should be strung up.

Not because of the weed, but because he's obviously a tyrannical two faced liar who's opinions are void of both substance and meaning.

                    Ron Paul 2012.

There are many productive people who use pot who do not abuse their children. There are ways to use marijuana without abusing it or having it work negatively against you.

My man smokes pot and he one of the hardest working, productive and gentlest men I have ever met.

I drink the tea and have never been high one day in my life.

Might I also add that when I was bleeding to death and had no idea what was wrong with me because of all the wrong diagnoses, the only thing that helped me was a strong mug of ganja tea. It saved my life and I have nothigd bad to say about it.

@ Evan G. Rogers and couturepopcafe:

Please educate yourselves as to the facts before spouting off unfounded opinions, or worse, parroting governement propaganda.  Medicinal marijuiana is helpful for many, many conditions.  It is NOT addictive, and is NON-TOXIC.  There are no deaths atttributed to marijuana--you cannot "OD" on it as you can with alcohol or hard drugs.  And no, it is NOT a so-called "gateway" drug.

"Lazy, do-nothing pot-heads?"  Right.  I'm sure there are more than a few "lazy do-nothing beer drinkers or cigarette smokers out there."  Stereotypes don't fly.

The REAL reason "pot" is illegal?  The giant pharmaceutical corporations who have powerful lobbying organizations and a vested interest in keeping us from safe, natural remedies, so they can continue doling out their expensive poison pills.  THAT is the real danger.  That is the real reason for all the negative dis-information and outright lies about marijuana.  Google it, if you doubt me.

That Person can be canceled in my books. That kind of law would cause more death in which that person should be charge in court and jailed for life for it.

I wouldn’t even give a Death penalty to a murderer, you can not prove killing is wrong, by killing someone, it ends all other games in life and in this case over a plant, my god.

Death penalty for pot would mean that all the people who use it to ease their pain during their illnesses like cancer and so on would suffer. There are healthy ways to use pot without actually smoking it or having if affect you negatively.

Yeah, Pot is a religion in some odd countries, and more people smoke it than there are Christians in the world.

If Newt gets voted in, what will this person do next, attack Jamaica for weapons of mass pot, it is already illegal in every country in the world to some degree.

Good ole Newt. It would be funny if he won the GOP nomination. He did mention that he'd consider picking Sarah Palin as a running mate. The general election would be more entertaining than any stand-up comedy act or sitcom. He and his running mate (maybe Palin) would get beat down like a red headed step child on election day. But don't feel too bad about them, they're used to it.

Cardisa, it's a marathon, not a sprint.  Some GOP candidates wanted to run in the race but hadn't properly prepared.

How do you prepare against the possible false attack? I can remember a President who had a throng of supporters saying his personal love life wasn't something to be attacked, these same people broke their necks to attack GOP candidates personal love lives.

Newt and Romney are the last desperate attempts to resurrect the liar party before its dead for good. The Republican party is not going to die but the past criminals who our known will soon be gone and replaced by the next generation of criminals in that party. I would like to thank George Bush for insuring that I will never vote Republican again. Any one willing to lie to the entire World is a serious threat to all life on this planet. Its un-American to over throw a Democracy in another Country such as Venezuela. He put every soldiers life in jeopardy and violated the Geneva Convention by approving torture. I will not say anything about 9/11 but I do not believe in there official story. How did we get 16 trillion in debt? try 8 years and a fraud election in Florida.

So Newt is a hypocrite, a flip flop, and a serial adulterer.

    Oh and ethics weaknesses

What puzzles me is that he is in any way a serious contender for the nomination of a serious political party in the most important country in the world.

It's only when the other side does it that it's bad. Where were people on Fox saying adultery might make someone a better president when Clinton was in office?

  10. profile image57

These parties simply pick the person and make you vote. I have never figured out these terrible choices of millionaires who profit from their office, conflicts of interest in representing companies and passing bills that favour them not to mention ex heads of the CIA and other poor choices. Perhaps the most ridiculous is any claim that they represent good Christian values of any kind except maybe Carter. We often assume that someone like the President of the United States has enough power to actually defeat the agendas in Washington and actually Represent the people but we assume to much.
