   Besides religion and politics, what other topics tend to be debated/argued about the most?
   
   If you want your next family event to be sporting, but don't want to fight about politics or religion because they've been overdone and are now boring - what other topics might start a spirited debate? Why have a polite gathering when you can have a free for all? What topics would you bring up - remember NOT religious or political issues, something else to mix things up.

   I think to would have to be sports.  Like who is the better team or player.  Or things that pop up in the news such as Lance Armstrong or Barry Bonds.

      other things parenting-each person has own way of raiding children, finances, health medicine vs natural healing, in my case my husband and I are in disagreement on how to load the dishwasher  LOL

   As I understand it. Topics that normal people think they can debate. For some reason people with no formal training think they are just as capable as people with formal training on some subjects. So you would just look at what members do for a living and offer advice on that. Tell a doctor that they over prescribe medicine. Tell a policeman about police brutality. Tell a plumber how ridiculous the rates are. Tell a teacher they are socialists.
   Well the list is endless.

   Among relatives who are active in the Sasquatch appreciation community: Sasquatch rights, interhominid dating, whether appropriating Bigfoot cultural practices is a form of racism.  With relatives who are not into Bigfoot, we often debate whether Bigfoot even exists.  I usually win these arguments by bringing my date.

      lol poetic - in these parts we are close to military bases, so it's usually UFO conspiracies more than bigfoot. He doesn't have many places to hide here..

      I'm sure he is, after all he has tried to tie him into every major religion lol. He himself used the term "bigfoot" however, so I can't see being offended by a word one uses oneself

      Sadly the mods have deleted my other questions about Sasquatch and Islam, same-sex love, and being from Montana.  My Sasquatch GF uses the term Bigfoot, so I think it's OK for some if you use that term.  Have a lovely weekend Christin and brblog!

   In my own family the only subject that is any problem is politics, we are all atheist so religion is no problem.
   The occasional conspiracy theory pops up, my step mother believed in many but she is no longer with us and those days are gone.
   I suppose health issues are still up there but we don't get any heated arguments.
   Politics is still the one that grantees arguments and we try to avoid it but more and more we tend to agree that neither party is worth the effort of any defense.
   Gun control raises some debate, two hands vs one is my position.

      I've heard that's the best kind Borsia - although my hubs and I don't fight so I really don't know.  Perhaps I'll start an argument with him later and find out hehe.

    1. Children -> What to do with them, what not to do with them, the scope is simply unlimited.... Their education, values, morals, nature, upbringing related issues, health and emotional conditioning, so on and so forth
    2. Parents -> Health, thought process, experiences, etc.
    3. Celebrities (movie updates and latest gossip, makeup, breakup, hairstyles, clothes, fashion accessories, style, attitude)
    4. Books and articles
    5. Music and food

       Music & Books are subject to the audience and orators/music lovers  present during the discussion.
       Try some classics or self help topics - they usually work, even latest scientific discoveries are engaging
       my personal fav is "Who moved my cheese

    (1)Parental and family favoritism is often a contentious discussion topic, particularly at family gatherings.  There is always one person who felt slighted by his/her parents and/or other relatives in favor of another.   In many families, the subject of favoritism, whether real or perceived is always bought up as a topic of conversation or rather argument.
    
    (2) Psychological, soul searching topics are also contentious topics for discussion. The topic of discussion could be  who is the most irritating person for whatever reason. This topic is bound to initiate some intense discussions because of differing opinions and analysis of the situation at hand.   Also many people do not want to be viewed as that most irritating person.   
    
    (3) Health and diet issues can be controversial topics.  For instance, one person may espouse the virtues of vegetarianism while another can espouse the virtues of a meat and potato diet.   Health and diet issues are often the subject of intense arguments as there is never an agreement on this topic. 
    
    (4) Music is a great topic of heated discussion.  Each musical genre is different between generation and even intragenerationally.  Some people love jazz and classical music.  Others love r&b and rock and roll.  A few will love the postmodern type of music such as hip hop.  Yes, one can discuss and argue about music for days at a time.
    
    There are so many topics to argue about besides religion and politics.  Religion and politics are such common subjects to argue about nowadays that these subjects are becoming old and tired to say the least.   There is so much more to talk about besides religion and politics-much, much more!

    Spirited debates only take place when people really believe they are "right" and they're (emotionally invested) enough to resent being challenged. Most topics outside of religion and politics do not rise to that level. Even things such as pro-life vs pro-choice, marriage equality, death penalty, or euthanasia tend to fall along side political and religious beliefs.
    This pretty much leaves us with either personal stuff that took place in our families or general stuff like: Best all time band, singer, movie, boxer, basketball player, team...etc  Most of these debates are likely to end with "Lets agree to disagree."

    Today the hot topic is 4G vs 5G isn't it? Or, what of this cell phone provider vs. that provider. Most certainly which health care insurance company is a hot topic. School guards is mentioned by many too as monitors seem are becoming phased out taking away school volunteers opportunities. I dun'no . . .
