What is the hesistancy and general vagueness among adults, esp. in the United States, surrounding

the use of the word lover when they are in romantic relationships, preferring to use the word boyfriend or girlfriend instead ? Why is there is so much hesistancy in using the word "lover". The terms boyfriend/girlfriend seems very sophomoric. We are mature and sensual adults in relationships, not teenagers experiencing puppy love.

True, partner is another apt word to describe intimate gatherings. I just find boyfriend and girlfriend too high school. Really now!

Healthy & mature adults have relationships they LOVE.Lover seems to be the most apt term.Sex is a part of relationships. It's beautiful & natural. When one is involved, he/she has a lover Nothing's wrong with that. Boy/girlfriend, that's high
