Be honest, tell your partner how you really feel and whether or not you want to work things out or not. It will be hard due to years of emotions but you have to be honest, even if it hurts.
Walking away is not usually the easiest thing to do. There is no easy way out. No reason to be nasty, just state the feelings you are having and walk away. But be sure that it is what you want before you leave.
