   An argument requires two people, so husbands argue about money as often as wives do.
   
   One reason couples argue about money is that each has different priorities when it comes to what is important when it comes to spending. 
   
   If a wife argues about money it's either because her husband wants to spend money she doesn't think he should, or because she wants to spend money he doesn't think she should.  Women (often more than men) can be very tuned in to human nature and the needs of children and family; so women (often more than men) often realize that "man does not live by bread alone" and spend on things a man may think, "Nobody really needs, as long as it isn't food or a roof over their head."  Some men may be happy to live with no furniture beyond a chair to sit in and a bed to sleep in.  Women see the importance of creating a home-like environment in which children can feel normal and thrive.
   
   Women may want to spend on something like make-up because they don't want their husband to think they've "let themselves go" and because they don't want their relationship/marriage to suffer.  That kind of thing can look like "spending on something nobody really needs" (but if the woman stops buying make-up and decent clothes for herself and starts looking "let go" her husband will be the first to complain (or have an affair).
   
   Women aren't the only ones who spend, though.  Some husbands feel the need to buy things that "you don't really need" too.  They can feel overworked or underemployed and just get so they feel they "have to have something for themselves".  Much of the time the arguing happens when the guy spends on something for himself and won't spend on something his wife thinks his family needs.
   
   These are just some "scenarios", and couples who argue about money need to openly talk about why they feel certain spending is important.

   I don't think the statement is true. It may be a perception, or a strereotype, but not a truth.
   
   For example, most households are seen with the woman controlling all of the finances. It's a common theme that the man has to ask his wife for money.
   
   In my house it's the other way around. I control the money. I also do all of the cooking. Another stereotype that most men can't even operate a toaster.

   It's not so much the wives, it is the difference of opinion. Men seem tohave different priorities than women when it comes to spending and financial planning.
