    At the end of the day, you have at least one thing in common -him.  Though I suggest you use your knowledge of him to see if your hobbies and interests are similar.  -if you have to see them at all, that is.  Otherwise distance and time usually equates to help finding cure.

    How do you relate to a work collegue or acquaintance?  This is always a good start to building a relationship.  Be polite and welcoming - non confrontational, essentially.  Let her talk about herself and just nod in the right places, keeping the conversation neutral.
