When dating someone new do you consider doing a backround check ?
I dont think it's a bad idea, but i think both should be willing and open if this is your intentions. I believe getting to know a person long enough and deep enough will serve as my background information. If it leads to a long-term commitment/marriage, yes, we will know each other's personal, financial, emotional history, and fingerprinting isn't out of the question. But again, it's gotta go both ways.
