Life is a personal journey.
No one is in a position to tell you what is best for you and your relationship. Having sex is a personal choice.
Naturally the upside to not having sex (in any form) with someone is "the guarantee" of not contracting any STDs or dealing with an unplanned pregnancy.
I agree with dashingscorpio's reasons of avoiding STDs and pregnancy. I think that whether or not one chooses to have sex with someone is an extremely personal choice. It might be wise to withhold from consumating the relationship until you think of "having sex" as "making love" if you are not the type for casual sex. For many people, sex complicates relationships by showing up too soon. If you do choose to go down that road at any time, be prepared!
