I think so. I have a great spouse and a good family, but it's nice to connect with people on a different level that friends provide

Friends are good to have.  But the very reason why this question is asked is because of the varying definitions of the word "friend."

If we truly knew what a friend was/is or could then make the determination that we could/should have them, then our lives would be enhanced by them.  Life should be enjoyed, treasured and shared with the people that mean something us and friends -true friends, should mean something to us.

Yes I do believe friends are needed but if you are a person who has your own personality and does not like to follow the animal spirit of a crowd, then you will find that it is very difficult to get good friends because most people are afraid of everything and they just follow others like sheep. If you find a good friend in this situation then I think you are one lucky dude or one lucky gal! wink

Absolutely. I have family spread all around the world including my parents. My friends have become my support network and my family and I love them as much as I love my family.

My true friends are amazing people who I choose to surround myself with and who not only teach me things about myself and life but guide me through life as I guide them through theirs. They make my life better and make me stronger :-)

No. There are unique qualities that lifelong friends bring but I would call that more of a luxury because people lose good friends all the time from accidents or arguments. It is up to the person to make new friends or just to have acquaintances. In some ways, not having friends is less stressful. There are no misunderstandings and you always choose what you want to do. Not having friends allows a person to discover who they truly are.

They are worth it, yes, but you don't need them. You can live your life without friends. They are not a basic life necessity.

Without a doubt you need people around. It's one of those questions you cannot fully answer until you are in a situation when there are no people you know around you at all excpet for your partner for example.
I've never been a very social person, I thought having friends is nice but not really necessary until I moved to different country with different culture and language.
After two years of not having anyone around I could potentially call and have a little chat, I felt like a fish without water. I was going crazy.
Luckily when I moved to new location and started actively looking for new friends, it all changed. Now I feel back like at home, with a group of people  I can hang out with whenever I want. The difference is that now I value them a lot - I know how it is when it's gone.

It all just depends on who your friends are.If you don't choose your friends wisely they will ruin you.If you have friends that will give you good advice and you like them that will help you in life.So yes you should have friends in your life.

I really don't think people "need" anyone else, I would choose not to live life without them. I think friends enhance your life.

Sharing a close bond with friends is a deep and meaningful relationship that is respected as well as treasured.

Not really. If we talk about a pure survival perspective.

But friends make life more enjoyable. You can share your memories with them.
