Best way for a man to chat up a woman..

A question for the ladies. If a man sees a women he feels attracted to do you feel uncomfortable/threatened if he approaches you to strike up a conversation, say if your in a bar or waiting in a que?

When he is laid back, not aggressive.
When he is sincere with his compliments and interest.
Since he doesn't know your situation at all, when he is cautious to not overwhelm...
    casual conversation would be welcome.

Well I would never hang out in a bar, drinking is not my cup of tea.  But in a different setting if a man came up to me and offered me his hand to shake and said, for example, Hi, I'm John Doe, how are you doing tonight?"

I would appreciate his straight forward attitude. I would return the handshake and tell him my name, and how I was doing - and hopefully from there a conversation would get started.  I would hope he would be funny, and kind and not overly aggressive nor arrogant (can't stand arrogance, but love self-confidence--a fine line).

I work in a grocery store and sometimes men come across like they're starring in their own play. They don't make eye contact and say lines that sound rehearsed. Or they look at you like they're staring in your soul. Creepy. Just be friendly!

All he has to do is to be himself, be friendly and say hello, and make small talk.  It's a great way to 'chat up' someone waiting in a queue or at the bar.

I am not uncomfortable as long as he makes eye contact and smiles. Sometimes it's charming if he is slightly bashful.
