I am not sure if you have children, but a good way to meet people is just by attending activities with kids, like soccer games and such. If not, going to a local coffee shop will do it or just introducing yourself to your neighbors, or going to the grocery store. It shouldn't take long before you meet some friends and find familiar faces! Good luck and be selective (be careful of people looking for vulnerable others!)!!!!
If you don't have a language barrier you should feel it easier if you have kids you can meet other mothers at school or book clubs.
When I was single, I met people through classes, church attendance, work, and sports activity. I've been happily married for 31 years, but I don't think the norms have changed! As you address your own priorities, you'll meet people who share those priorities and interests. It's a good start!
