Do you think possessiveness of husband towards his wife is a reflection of his intense love?

No, I don't think it's a reflection of intense love - I think it's a reflection of his personal insecurities.

Possessiveness can be cute to start with, but can spiral into controlling and abusive.

Eg if I have her, no one else can.

Perhaps it is because he feels intense love, and doesn't feel he deserves her, so is worried someone will take her or she will find someone better - rather than just relaxing into the relationship

    Just my opinion though

If husband says if i have her no one else can have then what's wrong with it? She should feel proud of such husband. Its ture that possessiveness should not hamper one's freedom.

And if she leaves him, will he come after her? Threaten her for looking at anyone else (even without lust?). A wife is not a possession, to be possesive of, she is a person, and a PARTNER. My wife is not an item, nor would I ever treat her as one.

Yeah exactly a husband can't treat his wife as an item, rather a lively relationship between the spouses remain vibrant as long as the individual freedom and identity is retained, for which both have to understand the significance of their roles.

Then possessiveness is the wrong word to use, as for me, it merely conjures up abusive controlling relationships. Maybe I misunderstood your original question.

Thanks jlpark for a realistic reply, you are right possessiveness has some negative elements in it, but to express the same we have less powerful terms, anyway it means a caring and loving attitude

It can be a reflection of his intense love, but more than likely its a reflection of his intense insecurity. You do not own your wife and your wife don't own you. I understand what you mean and it has a romantic, idealist movie fairy tale sort of feel, but it can get unhealthy pretty quickly. There should be a balance and I feel there could be intense love without possessiveness!!!

thanks for the response deecoleworld, what if a wife looks at the possessive attitude of her husband as a protective layer for her status and dignity?

well if she does then it works out for both of you!!! still it is a slippery slope

Ha ha nice comment deecole...i think the only thing that binds both is intense love for each other else the relationship gets an artificial touch of various negative traits.

Love?  I doubt it.  It's a control factor much like slavery. He owns her like he owns his car. She is not allowed to think for herself or follow her own feelings.

Its true but as long as it does not hamper her privacy and independence, it must be deemed as a privlege, isnt it?
