   This is a very interestingly funny subject. As hard as I think about it, I cannot avoid the fact that it is a gender based reality. No doubt there are many exceptions but the roles in the cartoon are just plain too common. For some reason it is a frequent truth that women express inner problems through criticism of husbands. And even a dull man knows that the direct critical attack is not really about the husband or his conduct at all. So for the most they silently weather the abuse knowing a response will only escalate trouble. They do in fact become the silent suffering martyr. So the humor has a ring of truth in it.
   Of course the issue goes both ways in life but it is far lopsided toward the depiction above.
   I think next time my wife makes an abusive dig at me I will consciously decide whether to be the martyr or not. But I can almost assure you that if I do not then there will be little peace for a good while. When you look at it like that it is not very funny but sad. So perhaps we like the humor of it, to ease the pain.

      Hi Eric ! Yes, I do agree with your observation that it is a funny as well as an interesting subject. You might also agree that it is also a very deep subject, I have seen men whose personality have totally changed after marriage.

   Here's the deal:   Martyrs???   Oh please. This suggests that men are forced to relinquish their lifelong beliefs, opinions, freedoms, habits, hobbies, lifestyle, hopes, dreams and goals.......just to comply with the requests and demands of his wife and/or for the marriage......(for the sake of peace, harmony and wedded bliss.)
   
   This has been a fact of life, the truth between the war of the sexes, since the beginning of time.   It's about damned time you men have finally figured this out and simply ACCEPTED it.!!!
