Love is an emotion whereby one cares deeply about the welfare of another. The primary difference between parental, sibling, and friendship love versus "romantic love" is our desire to be physically intimate with out mate. All other love is platonic.
Having said that when it comes to "romantic love" everyone has their own ideas of what love is suppose to "feel like", "look like" and how people "in love" should "act like".
Essentially we want to be loved "the way" (we) desire to be loved! If we're not being loved "the way" (we) want to be loved we don't {feel loved} regardless of what is in the other person's heart. It's not about (them) but about (our)expectations.
This explains why people often say:
"If you loved me you would....etc"
More often than not they mean their mate would "change" into what they want if they loved them.
The goal is to find someone who (already is) the kind of person you want to be with. The type of person who naturally expresses love (the way) that (you) want to be loved.
Maybe a great first date (screening question) might be:
"How do you know when you are loved?"
Based upon their response you'll know if you are "the right person" for them and vice versa.
Ultimately everyone wants to be loved for who (they) are.
Compatibility trumps compromise!
