If a relationship is not working, you can either fix the problem with your partner by talking about it or you can break it off if it seems that both the partners in the relationship are wasting time on each other.

Get a new partner that it does work with.
    There, that was easy.

If the relationship doesn't "work" it's because you've chosen the wrong partner for yourself. Life is too short to be trying to turn water into wine.
There is no amount of "work" or "communication" that can overcome being with someone who simply does not want what you want. Compatibility trumps compromise.
There are only two ways to experience joy and peace of mind in relationships: We either get what we want or we learn to be happy with what we have. Accept them (as is) or move on.
Thankfully there are over {7 Billion} other people on the planet!
No one is "stuck" with anyone!
    Suffering is optional.
