A long distance relationship is any relationship where a couple cannot easily or conveniently see one another due to their distance.
For some people this may mean a 1-2 hour drive or more and for most it means living in separate states/provinces of the same country or even in different countries altogether.
Is it possible for a long distance relationship to succeed and last longer? Anything is "possible".
One must first define what "success" means under such a scenario. Is it dating for 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, or marriage?
Note: There's a difference between "calendar time" and "actual time" spent together. A couple who sees each other one weekend per quarter may say a the end of the year they've been together for one year but in reality they would have spent 8 days together. LDRs tend to intensify feelings & distort time.
It's unlikely if they spent 8 days together dating locally they'd be professing their love or considering marriage.
Truthfully long distance relationships were meant to be temporary. The goal is to (be with) the person you love!
Unless there is a "light at the end of the tunnel" whereby one of you will be relocating in the near future the odds are you'll eventually drift apart.
It's the counting down of the months, weeks, and days, until one is finally done with the inconvenience of being in a long distance relationship that keeps it strong!
The only real reason to engage in a long distance relationship is because you believe she/he is "the one". If you're just dating for (fun) you might as well do that locally. One man's opinion! smile
