"Six gay men shot to death in Iraq by tribe members."
Says a CNN headline. After reading the article, I was left wondering, would Allah have approve of such an action? I thought Allah was about tolerance, love, peace and understanding.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/04/ … pstoryview
This looks like the start of another 'my god is better than your god' thread
Six homosexuals were killed because of their sexual activities. Isn't Allah about peace? Help me to understand how any religion can justify such an act. I'm not out to find out who can bash one god better than the next. I would like to bring up Homosexuality in the religious forum. Thanks Paraglider for your opinion. I hope it doesn't take that angle. But if it does, who can stop it? So does that make this post unworthy to discuss?
I see it often as an equation of fundamentalism plus fundamental culture with any religion--although there do see to be some extreme extremists in the Muslim countries.
It's not just taking their angst--or whatever--out on gays either. I remember watching a video on YouTube of an actual stoning death of a 17-18 year old girl who had had a boyfriend outside of her religion. They threw rocks on her head until it split open. Yes, on camera in 2008, it was, I believe. It made me sick. The hate behind it. And the stupidity. Sometimes, honestly, I look at people and wonder if the most of them aren't just basically animals (I know that sounds terribly bad/cynical, but I'm being honest-what other explanation is there?) There is a contrarian American philosopher from out of the 1800's--I forget his name now--who believed that perhaps homo sapiens IS the dominate species, but not all are really human beings in the way we think of 'man.'
Anybody got a better explanation?
But what could their explanation be for killing these men? Doesn't religion play a role in this activity? I can't believe these men were killed for committing a crime, [so to say]. They were gay.
Under Shariah law, it is a crime, just as it was under US law until more recently than perhaps you realise. Under Islam and Christianity, it is considered a sin.
I heartily commend Rationalism. It helps you put such garbage in perspective.
I don't understand Sharia Law and why Muslims feel obliged to follow it. I mean why stone? That's so cruel. Also, none of the victims get a fair trial. Its basically the word of a few against a hapless victim. Why can't Islam adapt to modern times?
What the Taliban are doing in Pakistan right now is similar to what you described. Its barbaric!!
Islam has adapted to modern times. Islamic fundamentalists have not. The same is true of Christianity.
There is no logical or normal reason that somebody like you or I can conceive of. This is what I am saying.
And you're damned right 'religionism' had something to do with it. I say that because this has nothing to do with real faith--AT ALL. You know that in some fundamental religions/society that being gay is deviant--a great sin, right? I'm sure you do, RK. As is a young girl who breaks with 'tradition' and her role to commune with some heathen or whatever....
It just makes me angry and sick.
Oh--concerning that certain philosopher--might have been Charles Sanders Peirce. Pragmatist. Don't think he liked most people much...sigh...sometimes it is easy to see why..
It's not the word of Allah, it's the people who just use it as they want.
In the dark ages Christians were burning people for being witches and it was the same Bible you are reading today. So I find the guilt in people.
For myself I don't even believe in God so it seems all nonsense. Anyways it's not a reason to judge people by their religion.
To be fair, homophobia is the dirty little secret of "enlightened" Western cultures too. It may not be as institutionalized as it is in cultures influenced by fundamentalist Islam, but it's no less ugly a presence.
I'm not aware of any tribes in America, executing Gay men in the open. It is still different kerryg. Granted we've come a long way, but, still I think these men were victims of religious stupidity. It doesn't get more sad than this.
Don't promote America as virtuous. It's not so long ago that they used to kill black men in the open. Check out your KKK. And if you're a Christian, maybe reflect on motes and beams, OK?
Last year during Obama's primaries I heard about a similar KKK activity in deep south. But I personally have never encountered any KKK nor have even heard of motes/beams. Btw one of the Junior's(who is an Indian) from my MS student days got a job in Alabama with decent pay and both within the company(and outside) the kind of reception he got he felt very uncomfortable. He started sending resumes to all of us. He left that place within one month(after getting another job in Bay area, CA). After hearing about some immigrants experiences(both personal/other online readings) maybe different parts of US are still in different eras as far as tolerance and mutual respect is concerned.
P.S: I don't have too many personal experiences and my reading can hardly be classified as an objective study. I have no intention to hurt any folks (and my apologies to anyone who has been offended by this post). I really admire and respect Americans in general and have nothing against anyone.
Don't lecture me on the KKK. Maybe before you post something, try checking the profile you're responding too. I've checked out yours.
Hip-hop was not on the list I saw.
LOL if you can't comprehend such a simple post, I can go that far as to explain it to you
First you did forget already - it was not me who pointed out a KKK example to you. Second, this was brought up to support the point that in its very recent past America was no less barbarian than some other countries currently are. Does it explain the point?
And what about your profile? Don't see anything about KKK there
Oh, and you are just asking for being lectured all the time
Misha, Misha, Misha... What now? Hm? Miss me? Not getting enough attention from me, what? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what color I am or what my religious background is. Go through some of my hub titles.
Your barking is getting old.
LOL, out of curiosity I went and studies the list of your hub titles shown on your profile. If anything, you seem to be a Russian Jew
A Jew on the other side of the fence.

Misha, what does this have to do with me being lectured about the KKK? Be careful Misha- you might find yourself in some deep waters. I noticed your ass ain't black. So, if you really want to pursue this line of questioning and conversation- I will take you there. Now what is your point Misha? What does this have to due with lecturing me about the KKK?
Misha, I don't believe you had my permission to copy or paste, or use my hub page titles. If I suffer adverse effects from you trying to make a point, you will pay for it. Trust me. I have filed a copyright compliant. You did not have my permission. Those are my titles. You have no right to effect my business in this negative manner. OMG!! Folks please let me know if my previous post in this thread was acceptable. I don't want to get into any legal issues concerning any racial/regional complaints by anyone (If it is not acceptable then I still have time and will delete it and will be careful in the future).
P.S: I am an Indian and I am not aware of all the laws of this land. Please let me know soon.

Does Islam contain some doctrines that make it mandatory for all Muslims to kill/destroy/annihilate followers of other religions/atheists/agnostics? Some say it does. Some others say it was not originally in the text but had been stealthily inserted later by religious fanatics.

It's going to be hard for me to write objectively about this, but I'll try.I've recently seen a documentary about the child witches in Nigeria. I think it's just about the most terrifying and horrendous thing I've ever seen. The diagnosis and labelling of a child as a witch is pretty simple.If...
