    I cannot track down a specific answer but I believe it refers to the bible verse of Matt 28:18 - 20 which says:

    We are baptised in the name of the Father, Son and Spirit: the one and the many conjoined, reflecting the profoundly trinitarian roots of the whole concept and course of salvation.

    This is a reference to the shamrock, its three leaves so to leave a son a shamrock you leave with him blessings for safety.

    Of course someone else will have a completely different view but I am not responsible for them lol
