Do you think people are embarrassed to say they believe there is a God?

Watching a program recently, lots of people said they believed in a "higher being". I thought there was only one higher being up there.

its not about being embarrassed...like i also believe in higher being which means god but it might not be as per definition..rite?..i mean for me god is someone who made an automatic system which takes care of entire universe which include humans which is one of species...so when i say yes i believe in god it means this belief...now i have right to have my belief like other have right to adhere to their believes...isn't it?

In my opinion and what I beleive is the truth is that there is a Higer BEING and His name is Jesus.

I do notice that ppl do get embarrassed when asked about God because in most cases well in Christianity, the beleifs are different from what most ppl think is right or wrong. So, due to that ppl get embarrassed because they don't want to SEEM different from the norm. I beleive this is why Christians are hit alot because we go aganist the main stream of things.

For me I'm not embarrassed if I was asked.

    Good question Lady E.

This is a good question. If you are in this situation, only ask people you think won't mind.

I don't think so. If Someone truly believes in something, they won't keep it to themselves through embarrassment, they will be enthusiastic to talk about it.

In today's world, people are more aware of their spirituality. Learning about their spiritual side, is spurred on by some untoward incident or a serious situation in life they are faced with. When they are up against what seem all odds, they look for a Higher being who they think must be in control of everything. And then the discovery is made-GOD,omnipotent,ever forgiving, etc, etc,.
It takes life's experiences to get in touch with one's spiritual side, although researchers say that a woman will @ age 38 and a man @ age 42 or so. I did a great deal of reading on the subject a few years ago.
So, until such time, they never mention GOD ! But once they have experienced GOD in their lives, they will look for every opportunity to praise GOD and be vocal about what He did in their lives.
Indians however, are very particular about GOD -whether they are Hindu, Muslim or Christian. Right from the time a child is born, he/she is taken to temple, gurudwara, church, etc.,and even in schools, moral science lessons always focus on the need to be god fearing and have good values. Prayers are said at assembly every morning which is compulsory and so Indians are conditioned to be grateful to god for everything whether in school or at home,at work or any where else. And they are very vocal about it. Singing hymns or chanting mantras are done in every home first thing in the morning.Business establishments sport a picture of their diety on the wall behind the cash counter. Any public function always begins on a spiritual note.

Great question! The short answer is yes, people no longer want to say they believe in God.
I think it’s because people want to distance themselves from the church, mainly the catholic one and to be honest I wouldn’t blame them.

i think some people are embarrassed to say that they believe in God.  Some think it is a sign of weakness.  Glad I am not either one of them.  Like you, I believe there is one higher being, God!! However, we live in a world that is open to all kinds of religious beliefs.  And since God gives us free will, some people think they can choose as they please.  Even God says he knows our choices, but then he tells us the best of what to choose.  So, for those who for whatever reason will not admit to it, they have made their choice.  For those who choose not be believe in God, that is their choice.  We need to ask ourselves, when it comes to believing in a 'god and/or a higher power' whether or not we are choosing as God has said to choose.

If you can, let me know what the program was, sounds interesting.  Have a great day!!!

As a matter of fact, from my own personal point of view,i do not think that people feels embarrassed about this.I do not feel embarrassed to profess my honest belief about God (TRINITY) and the folks i does circle with has same reasoning too but most folks some other places might have different views, all depends on individuals.
Thanks Lady_E,u got a friend of mine looking up the sky, don't know what he is thinking anyway, perhaps, searching for God.

I most certainly do, and this is something I've never understood!

If people took the time to really sit and think about how blessed they are and how merciful God has been over their lives, praising God and expressing their belief in Him, should be something they would want to sing from the rooftops!

AAAAAND God wasn't embarrassed when He sent His only son here in the flesh to die a HORRIBLE, PAINFUL death for every one of our sins and measly selves so that we could have eternal life!

I'm sorry, but just realizing how much He loves me, makes me want to swing from the rafters!
