I refuse to prove that I exist, says God, for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.
But," says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn't it? It proves you exist, and so therefore, you don't,"
"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.
This is quite profound. The basic axiom is indeed that proof denies faith, because faith is a belief that stands upon the strength of its own convictions. It's very easy to believe in something that can be proved. In a sense, doing so isn't true belief at all.
Is that a good analysis of the exerpt from The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams?
I am 5'6" tall and always dreamed of being a basketball player, and I like to give people who have nothing better to do than read it, something to do.
Proof and faith have nothing to do with existence. Existence is defined. Either god exists or god does not exist, regardless of any faith or any proof.
Dave Mathews the Hitchikers guide to the Galaxy is not 'dribble', how else were we to know that the answer to the Universe and everything in it is 42 and that to hitch a ride on an alien spacecraft one must not forget their tea towel, this is important stuff.
It also proves that nothing exists as a finite number multiplied by infinity equals nothing. So it does not matter either way.
something that was created by man for the purpose of control and isn't real , that's why it was stated that god refuses to prove his existence.
dave mathews, why are you saying such rude things. just because someone thinks your beliefs don't make sense, it doesn't give you the right to be so negative but then again it's not like your know for politeness.
He did not interfere because he will undo all injustice done by satan and his wicked followers. He has allowed things to happen . But has the power to undo anything he wishes.
Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
i often wondered why this chapter did not start off with adam and eve. Adam and eve walked with God in the garden therefore they can not be examples of faith having actually seen God.
The Disciples asked Jesus to " prove " to them on several instances whom he was. He replied " haven't I already proven with my work's who I am, and yet you still doubt ". God has " proven " over and over who he is and what he is and yet mankind still doubts. There are actually groups of people that do not believe " trees " exist. They do not believe we exist.
Groups of people believe that the Govenment was behind 911 and the OKC bombing. And then their are those that believe it was sinister outside forces. And to listen to them, they make very valid arguments, just as Stump refuses to believe in God.
I have actually stood and watched several planes crash and stood in disbelief that it actually happened for a few moments until it " clicked " that, hey this is real ! Studies have been done on this phenominon and if you have 100 people on a plane and the plane crashes. Assume nobody dies, but the plane is going to blow up in 3 minutes. Did you know that 92 will be paralyzed and not move ? This is true ! It will be those 8 people that immediatly recognize what is going that will save the other 92....
With that said, God could ride out of the clouds on a big white horse with trumpets blarring and their would still be people who doubted him....Enough said !
Maybe "enough said" for you, but not for thinking people. I challenge you---outside of what the Bible itself says (unverifiable at best), what empirical evidence has God given for his existence?
The evidence is speaking ,you are the evidence, you exist not by your own power ,you could have been another person ,but you are in existence. You can not add more heartbeats, or more brain activity, but you work like a wonderful creation of order.
Well if God was willing to show himself to Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel, why would he not be willing to show himself to everyone? Why would God be shy? And as for having faith, that is just a concept, not a real thing.
Perhaps when God punished all humans because Adam and Eve "disobeyed" him, he just washed his hands of us and disappeared back to wherever it is he came from.
it may be a good analysis but i don't agree. we tend to separate the word faith as it applies to God into a category by itself where it doesn't belong. We all use faith everyday in our lives. We have faith the car will start when we get in it. We have faith the chair will hold us up when we sit in it. We have faith that our partner loves us. To live in any other way would make us a paranoid wreck. All of those ways of living by faith are based on what we have learned from past experience. We have learned by those experiences to trust in the nature of the thing we are having faith in. So it is with those of us who have come to put our faith in God. We have come to trust Him because our experiences have proven Him trustworthy. That is not something anyone can argue with anymore than someone could argue with me about the nature of my Dad. They don't know him. I do. What have they to say to me about it? That is faith. That is belief. It is based on realities i have experienced. The fact that it is makes it no less faith or belief.
We believe the car will start because it has started every time before. This cannot be said of "God." You may believe that God saved you from a car wreck, but you cannot prove it. It may equally have been chance. See?
And since God is not of flesh and blood like us but of a spirit body ,then you can not say he did not , things will happen Cain killed his brother Abel ,did he interfere ? No he called Abel righteous. When satan tempted Jesus did he stop it. no.
To answer some of the questions below. God wouldnt show himself because then everyone would know he exists and stop believing which is the whole foundation for religion, if he revealed himself people would worship him because they want to go to heaven and KNOW the would rather than BELIEVING they would so people would follow him for the sake of it.
And religion wasnt created by man to control people its the complete opposite, what was created by man to control man was the media. For the past 50 years it has told everyone whats right, wrong what to think what you should do what you shouldn't what exists whats good and bad. This has been used mainly to get everyone believing there is no such thing as god so the world can be united under the "New World Order".
As you all probably dont know the "New World Order" is the brainchild of a very old group which nowadays go by the name of The Freemasons. These guys aswell as Zionists own pretty much all of the worlds media and wealth and are also in nearly every position of power in most countries. They also worship satan and use his signs in many corporate logo's and even countries emblems. So if they believe in the devil and are trying to make everyone not believe in god what does that say to you?
Man's inquisitiveness and insistence on evidence is part of his nature. Where did that come from. According to Christian theology, it could not have come from God because God hates man's insistence on evidence. It must be that our inquisitive nature is part of the consequence of Adam's and Eve's disobedience. Disease, death, pain in childbirth, mosquitoes, and an insistence on proof are a result of the Fall of Man. Laughable.
And lets not forget the bottom line. What Christian theology teaches is that God is saying "Believe in me for no good reason, or go to hell."
Lets also not forget that Romans 1:20 contradicts this teaching of Christian theology. "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Here, Paul says that nature declares the existence of God. So God does believe in providing evidence. And don't for get Jesus. He said "Believe in me for my works sake." Oh, so Jesus also believes in providing proof. So Why do Christians get mad at non Christians for asking for proof?
God almighty thinking is nothing like a mans thoughts. He would be highly more intelligent , because man so far progressed in electronics as to creating the robot. And many more machinery. 10% of our brain can only move slowly in this advancement. So again what would intelligence, or a super being using more then our brain capacity would be able to do ! Well just look all around you. And in the heavens above and see what he can and has done. We can make a light bulb , but he makes luminaries, stars, moon and sun. We can not live out in space we need oxygen mask that man can make. But he gives us all the oxygen we need on this planet to live. There are many more examples ,but for now as an example if you walked in a beautiful designed custom home. What would you think. Who designed it . Who thought of the lay out. Well just because the designer is not at your convenience of appearing before you does not mean the house has no maker. For a good reason he is silent ,because we have all we need at this time to learn of him. His purpose and the history of how we came into existence. Why do people think that they pick God . Really when you think about it .he lets himself be found. Only by invitation. Not forced.

Many believers like to say that Atheists should prove that there is no God. Believers should know that existence has to be proved, not the non-existence. If a thing exists, it is possible to prove its existence. So believers should prove the existence of God if he exists. But if they want to do it,...

Atheist say that they can't prove that God do not exist,so.......that make them just as ignorant about the matter as those that they say can't prove that He does. That is a clear view of the Pot calling the kettle black.Do you agree. There is more proof that He does exist than He doesn't.They don't...

The following post is in response to a statement made by another hubber and the many posts I've read using logical fallacies:"the burden of proof" is NOT on the believers. There is no burden to prove He exists because it is by FAITH that we believe. It is by faith we called on to believe....

How can you be an atheist if you can't disprove the existence of God?What validity is there to the double negative argument for the existence of God? Is it really rational to justify belief in something by the mere fact that it cannot be disproved? You also can not disprove the existence of...

it's simple, of course they exist, otherwise how else would we so readily know what they are, if they didn't exist we wouldn't know about them to argue of the existence of themalso, if you think of God(s) as the force, that makes things be, then they exist, otherwise, things wouldn't exist

Atheists claim that God does not exist, show me the proof that backs up this claim.
