The nuclear bomb, a nuclear war would have to be the worst, destroying not only the people but every living animal and plant.

In total darkness as the sun burns out. Nothing will survive as most living things need the source of light from the sun.

Pollyannalana you mentioned a nuclear war, that could happen, but steps are leading up to a direct confrontation With God.  For decades men have been making war with an earth that God owns.  Man spreads poisonous toxic wastes to back up into the water, air, and soil. Earth is under a deadly assault, and the war-maker is man.  Before he ruins it completely, God will step in to bring to ruin those ruining his earth.” (Revelation 11:18)

Edhan mentions total darkness as the sun burns out. Two scriptures seem to negate that scenario, because we need our sun.  How long will the sun last?  The answer:

“All the days the earth continues, seed sowing and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease.” (Genesis 8:22)

That cycle comes from the sun, and its dependability that is created by God more than 13 billion years ago. All it took was a word, and then his active force to:

“Let luminaries come to be in the expanse of the heavens to make a division between the day and the night; and they must serve as signs and for seasons and for days and years.  (Genesis 1:14)
