I think that atheism is a belief system. Like wiccanism, shamanism, juedaism, christian-ism, leftism, lol. The only thing that is false, is when a person of one faith believes that anothers beliefs or faith are false.
I agree with BizGenGirl. The idea of a 'false' -ism comes in two varieties.
1. Most religions are built on beliefs in some sort of supernatural reality. Since atheism sees no supernatural, it has been called false.
2. Many believers see their beliefs as the true beliefs, leaving all other beliefs in the false category. As such, atheism is called false.
If people are to be defined by what they do not believe, than should we for instance define Christians as non-Muslims? Just because someone does not believe in one particular "ism" that does not mean they do not believe in ANYTHING.
An ism isn't made an ism because it has a God as a focal point. It is an ism because it is enough of a unified ideology that more than one person can get underneath its tent. Deists don't have any right to define the secular ideologies which other people find meaning in, any more than secularists get to define anyone else's God.
Your question is hollow - it has no spirit
It is only false if you are not the one believing in it.

Just a question, but it would seem if there really were no God, then Atheists couldn't exist. Is Atheism a religion? They definitely seem to be unified by a common belief.

I was about to reply to rickylidea's forum "How Did You Become an Atheist?" when it dawned on me that I might not qualify as a bona fide atheist. Some of you may remember from my previous hubs that I hesitate to apply a label to what I do and do not believe. Still, there...

Theists/Atheists: Can you compliment the opposite belief system? If you're a theist, what's something positive you could say about atheists? If you're an atheist, what's something positive you could say about theists? Please no sarcastic or passive-aggressive responses.

bother posting AGAINST beliefs? If the Atheist can "convert" any believer to Atheism, then, they can be compared to evangelists who do it the other way.Any thought?

Is atheism a religion?Properly defined religion is “a set of beliefs concerning the nature and purpose of the universe, generally agreed upon by a number of persons; something one believes in and follows devotedly.” So you don’t need God to have a religion. All you need are some prophets (e.g....
