    The Bible gives the answer.  We know we have passed from death unto life because we love the brethren.

    for GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten Son, that whosoever shall believe on HIM should not perish but have ever lasting life.

    when you accept CHRIST as your saviour, you desire to please GOD, and your works show this...obedience to HIM. GOD begins a renewal in you, changing you from your old self to a new self. you can see and feel this change as it takes place. GOD becomes your priority in life.

    1John5:11,12 "And this is the testimony. God gives us eternal life and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." When you've acknowledged being a sinner in need of a Saviour...when you've asked for forgiveness and repented of your sin...when you've humbled yourself before your Creator...when you are indwelled by the Holy Spirit, Jesus is in your heart and becomes your focus for living. You will find yourself being changed...transformed...giving up the old self and becoming a new person in Christ.  As you begin walking with the Lord, you will be more aware of what is sinful. The fruit of the Spirit will be evident in you. Galatians5:22 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control."

      When you are saved, you will feel it in your heart.  You will have no doubt, no questions of "am I or am I not".  If you walk with doubt, you have missed the whole point of being saved.

      Really great answer, thank you. If the new creation in Christ is not permanent, does it mean the request for salvation was not genuine?

      Not necessarily! A new believer can easily fall back into an "old way" which God will allow for a period of time. But, "For whom the Lord loves He chastens" see Hebrews 12:6-8 and 1John1:9

      All people, saved or not have setbacks and make mistakes. God knows our hearts better than we know them. Even Jesus was tempted with sin. It's a matter of knowing that God is more powerful than any sin though and giving those to God.

    Initially salvation is simple.  By faith, believing the purpose for which Jesus came and died. Because it is possible to lose that salvation, the babe in Christ cannot drink milk for long, and won't desire milk, but meat.  The christian will begin to grow deeply in love with the Savior as they seek his written Word and understand what he expects of them.  This becomes easier as love deepens and our desires are to please him, i.e. putting away sin, sharing him with others, and spending time with him daily.  To walk with him daily in a very personal relationship is knowledge.

      If you have been truly saved you cannot lose your salvation! John10:28 Jesus said,"And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish;neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. Also read verses 28 and 29.

    Lets see...A save is recorded when...

    1.The pitcher (he) is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his team;
    2.He is not the winning pitcher;
    3.He is credited with at least ⅓ of an inning pitched; and
    4.He satisfies ONE of the following conditions:
    1.He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning
    2.He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, at bat or on deck.

    Thats how you know you have been saved by "the gook"-Rule 10.19 of the Official Rules of Major League Baseball.

      I thought it was hilarious! And you are so right about Christians being really uptight these days. Take a chill pill people, Jesus would want that. But I think you got the lack of response because nobody can tell if you were mocking or not. Thanks ag

    This is an interesting question. I would have said when you have faith in Jesus, but now taking a closer look at the teachings of Jesus I wonder if that is all there is to it. Faith is a lot more difficult then many people believe, Jesus said that there is no love so great as to lay down ones life for a friend, but then immediately after said you are my friend IF you follow my commandments.

    His commandments were to love God, and love one another. The type of love that Jesus demands takes a lot of work. The type of faith the Jesus calls for is not at all as simple as people think.

    I think you are saved when you have stopped thinking about being saved. Faith isn't about being saved, it isn't about ourselves. We have to die to self before we can be saved, which mean the question of whether or not we are saved would not occur to us at that point.

    Salvation is a gift given to us from God.  He sacrificed His only Son so we too could live in Paradise.  Through faith in Christ we are restored.  Salvation brings about living to serve God.  Some days we struggle more with that than others, but keeping your heart focused on God, and maintaining a personal relationship with Him will keep you in his Grace.  God knows our hearts better than we know them.  Each person's salvation is between themselves and God. :-)
