How do you view evil, when in contrast to the spiritual message of the bible?

I say "spiritual message of the bible", because Jesus did things such as cast out demons. Being that the bible clearly talks about spiritual things, when viewed in the context of the bible, what is evil?

Evil is anything that goes against God and His word.

I believe that what the Bible preaches is belief. Not one particular belief but your own belief. That is to say that the Bible is there as a guide to what you see fit. So, as we all may see things differently, as shown by the number of religions that use the Bible as their guide, every bodies view of evil may be different. I do believe that although the Bible was written by people, it does have a touch of divinity in it. A religion is just one persons view of the Bible, the leader of that particular religion. Each of us must read it and make our own decisions, not be led by others. I am not saying that religion does not serve a purpose, as in the case of those that may find it difficult to understand, then they do perhaps need guidance and that is the purpose of the Church, not blind faith in what one persons view is. So evil, is what you believe is indicated by the Bible. At this point, it is probably relevant to point out that most countries in the World, regardless of their faith, seem to have the 10 commandments as a basis for their laws. So it could be said that evil, is the breaking of a countries laws, which in turn are based on references to the Bible. I think, that as we are all human and therefore capable of breaking the laws, on purpose or otherwise, true evil is the encouragement to break the laws. That true evil may come from many sources: Terrorists, CIA or others. The secret is to be able to recognize the possible evil intentions, of those that ask you to do something and never encourage others to do what you, yourself believe to be wrong. Read the Bible and decide for yourself. Having done that: stick to your belief.

Amen to the first comment above by Ebower, however, the second commentator, is an example of evil that works 'in and through' people to deceive others! His interpretation of the Bible and his lack of faith and his humanistic stance says it all!

M.A. How do you feel about the Presidential Debate knowing this guy represents the conservative party. He certainly used Lies to his advantage as if we don't have his whole campaign promises on video? That was some Wicked Evil.

I'd have to say that evil is the hopeless condition of the human heart as viewed by the Lord Almighty, a condition that we are born with, because of one man's sin (Adam).

Evil is also the world's Babylonian system, which focuses on the glory of man, leaving the Creator out of the picture. A rebellion so to speak that began in Genesis 11: "The Tower of Babel". A system controlled by the "evil one", Satan.

Consider evil as a veil of darkness, which conceals the spiritual truth of Christ's Gospel through religion and the teaching of the law, which causes sin consciousness that brings guilt, condemnation, strife and unnecessary judgment. The result of which binds up humans, preventing them from reaching their true potential of fruitfulness and of the Lord's blessing.

I'll sum it up by simply saying that evil keeps us from entering the Garden of Eden.

The spirit has many levels before enlightenment but that is your personal goal which will be blocked by evil forces to keep you from attaining it so easily.  Then there is evil which lives within us like selfishness and greed which cause a brother or mother to kill or steal from their own. Royals and Noble alike have always known of this. Our best defense against evil among us and evil within is to stay filled with the Spirit of God. When he alone dwells in us then the struggle is much less. Once you reach this level the best you can do is show others how to master it. Liberation can only come when you know your divine purpose is within.

    Evil comes from ego.

Ego is the blindfold we've pulled over our spiritual eyes so that we depend upon the physical eyes in order to see. This is the "darkness" of which the Bible speaks.

Genesis 1:26 says that man was created in the image and likeness of God. This is spirit. This is a non-physical and immortal true self and source of creation. That's why Peter could walk on water, if only for a moment before doubt set back in.

Evil is know by its fruits. Ego is selfishness.

Take the actions of the United States presidents in recent years. Wars of greed. Tyranny and frightening its citizens to give up their liberties and to shred their Constitution. Lies to betray the people and get them to agree to attack Iraq and then other countries. Lies by presidents who betray their Oaths of Office -- like Obama and Bush. Romney is no better, because he would have voted for the NDAA with its indefinite detention clauses for American citizens. And look at the greed and gluttony of the American government, spending like drunken pirates with a stolen credit card belonging to the American people. $16+ Trillion in debt and accelerating under Obama.

And Romney promises to do even worse.

    Ego is selfishness.

The antidote to ego is humility, responsibility, love and faith.
