Yes or no? What do you think your individual purpose or the purpose beyond yourself is?

Every generation has the responsibility to advance the generation of the one that preceded it. I think my purpose is to take the accomplishments of my parents and advance the family name.

Personal Growth ... that includes spiritual growth and a conscious realization that we are all part of one huge mass of every changing vibrations.

I think I believe the same. If it were only about ourselves, we would not be able to develop common goals of how to freely be ourselves. If all believed in only themselves, I think it would be pretty selfish world as it already is.

Sometimes, just not all the time. We learn much more from disagreement, however we are more at peace in agreement. Funny how things work out.

I honestly believe that there is a purpose in our life and that is growing spiritually ready for next life adventure. If the meaning of living was just go to work, pay the bills and save enough money to garantee yourself a decent living when you are old, life would be really sad. Thankfully lige brings us so different experiences with different meanings and valuable lessons to learn and to digest. Recently I dreamt about my grandad that sadly passed away last year. In this dream he told me: "I came to tell you that there is light and hope".
I live also for that purpose!

This is inspiring and I must be honest to say I don't know if I believe it, but I wouldn't rule anything out. In the end, it doesn't matter what I believe, only what you believe. I don't believe in living for dreams, but maybe common ground for individuals to stop being selfish is only found in faith and dreams. I do think faith in purpose can either keep a logical mind sane or turn it insane. Thank You for sharing.

If there was only purpose for each of us to only be individuals and not sacrifice for a common belief, we wouldn't have a military to defend our right of free belief.

Yes I believe that we are meant to travel the stars in search of other life, because it beats being here in our very distant future on a crowded planet that will more than likely implode through our ever selfish actions...I can just imagine a casino on the moon and a water world on Mars!!

lol I would never say you have a lack of imagination or hope. I don't know about the moon, the scientist might blow it up with nukes first in the search of water.lol

If none of us sacrificed our individual belief to meet at a common belief, wouldn't muder, rape, child molestation, and other inhumane crimes be legal? If there was no common belief in sacrifice of individual belief, there would be no laws or police to capture criminals, right?

As a Christian, I believe that we are here to love God and (learn) to love others, even those who are difficult to love...(of which I have met many, lol), but maybe it is because I need to grow in love and kindness, and so I meet the ones who are difficult to love in order to become the person I am meant to be, and they can become the people they are meant to be...
Love, kindness, mercy, forgiveness...all of these things change the world and the people in it. I think we are to lift up those who are hurting, discouraged and downtrodden, and in turn they will in time have the ability to reach out and do the same for others...

Thank You for writing. I don't think we all have to love the same idea of a creator or love a creator at all to find common ground. I think this may in many ways separate us from finding common ground. I do agree with the others you mentioned as love, kindness, mercy, forgiveness, are all good morals to strive for common ground.

I don't know. Sometimes I think none of it makes sense and the only purpose is whatever you decide the purpose is. For me, compassion matters more than anything. For other people it's money. For others it's feeling important. For others it is their art. And so forth.

    1. marinealways24 profile image59
marinealways24posted 14 years agoin reply to this

Thank You for posting pgrundy. Respectfully, I disagree that it is whatever the individual decides. If this were the case, there would be chaos with no grouped belief to create laws. I could be wrong. I agree that most have their own different purpose and individual idea of that purpose.

With the laws we create, it limits somes belief. However, without laws, we may not have protection to have free belief. lol is this a contradiction?

I see your point, but the world IS chaotic. I mean, life is chaos. You say, if this were true there would be chaos. There is chaos.

marinealways24posted 14 years agoin reply to this

lol I know the world is chaotic, I agree with you! This is because we have so many different individual beliefs without meeting at a common ground!

everybody got to protect themselves first, but protectionism is the responsibility of all, remember family is still the basic unit of society, and family is composed of individuals too,

    1. marinealways24 profile image59
marinealways24posted 14 years agoin reply to this

Not all individuals are strong enough to protect themselves. If all individuals were responsible and had some common morals, we couldn't need laws and police. Many individuals don't have a family for guidance and morals.

      1. profile image0
poetlorraineposted 14 years agoin reply to this

that is very true, it would be nice if we could just guide ourselves, but maybe we were never intended to, what do you think, is the purpose of us being here in the first place

        1. marinealways24 profile image59
marinealways24posted 14 years agoin reply to this

That is a great question. Maybe the question to world peace and common ground. I don't know the answer, I only have a belief which is likely different from others belief. I will try to give my answer. Possibly the logical purpose could be to continue forward progress in learning ruling out all contradictions to life while never limiting forward progress. To do this, I think every individual would have to sacrifice some of their individual belief to meet at a common belief. Something that could only be done through faith. Logic says that it is impossible to get every individual to control themselves and to meet at a common ground of morals when everyone has a different individual idea of morals. Possibly the only chance at a common belief of peace would be through a world changing chaotic life ending event to make people realize the importance of life.

the reason there are political laws is that they based it on moral laws, morals laws are based on religious mores too..to some extent,

and I agree there will be chaos if there is no political laws, moral laws keeps on evolving and so thus political laws to adapt through changing times...and every culture has its own set of mores also,,

    interesting concept.......

You only have to look at what a small thing like hub pages can do, when we all work together,,,,,, if in the world we could all just move in the same direction for the same goals we all say we want peace etc etc  the world would be a better place to live...... it will take a higher power to do it i believe, if we had one ruler over all the earth, and everyone was equal that could help, what say you is it a pipe dream?

    1. marinealways24 profile image59
marinealways24posted 14 years agoin reply to this

Thanks. We all have individual goals though. How many of us would humble ourselves and sacrifice an individual goal to meet at a common goal? Many individuals are selfish to sacrifice any personal goal for a common goal. I wouldn't say anything is a pipe dream. However, only a life ending event or a miracle before everyones eye's would bring them all to one belief of a creator and group purpose.

i would because it would ultimately benefit everyone........ i think it will happen, i think god will intervene, soon.  If you believe the bible, and you believe he did it in Noah's day then he can do it again.   Not by flood this time though, i think it is about time we saw it happen, though it has to be in his time not ours.....

I am responding off the top of my head without much forthought so forgive me when I sound ignorant; here goes.
I believe mans purpose here on earth is a selfish one. We are suposed to learn that we create those things in life that we hate the most. Our anger toward things are the catalist that spowns those things that anger us next. Our imaginations are the sourse of our happiness or lack there of.
       Life revolves around oximorons.
Therefore it is "possible" but not necessarily true; to be our most selfish when we are being unselfish.
There is action to be found in inaction, etc. etc.

Do you believe there is a purpose in life beyond yourself?

To answer this question, I must explain the question.

The question resembles a question with reference to asking if there is a collective purpose or meaning for all people.

If you're looking for a collective purpose for mankind, there is only ONE set purpose that can apply to mankind and not be negative- For the Bettering of Mankind.

So, Yes! If an individual has any purpose designed to help society move forward, as a whole, then they carry a purpose of life beyond themselves.
